i have a 97 chevy 1500 w/t and i hate the #### day time running lights is there a way to dis connect them

if you really hate them just take out the bulbs, easiest way to get rid of them.

I didn't know that they had the DRL's in 1997 :werd: I thought that the DRL's were 1st available on the 1999 Chevrolet's. If thats true then I would agree, just pull the lite bulbs out or disconnect wires at the rear of the light

Back then the DRLs were actually the headlight itself. Not seperate bulbs.

the DRL diode is under the dash on the right side of the steering column, bolted to the dash cross brace. it has a large heat sink on it and is black in color, find it under the dash and just unplug it it is kind of hard to un plug but can be done in the dash, the bolt that holds the diode to the dash is impossible to remove with out destroying the diode just unplug it.

J LOWE...........I had a 97.......Disable DRLs fast and

easy. Pull the DRL fuse in the fuse box on the left

side of the dash! It will NOT effect any thing else.....geo

Just did that for my buddy last night... I think it was fuse #15 and was 20 Amps, and was in the fuse panel at the end of the dash.

Shaners...The 97 was a piece of cake compared to my 01.

On the 01 if ya pull the fuse it also cuts off the fog lights.

Oh well I just yanked the bulbs !

I'm new to the posting on the forum but have been lurking for a while. Lots of good info.

I noticed alot of people hate the DTRLs. What is the reason?

DTRL have been the law here for years, and I agree with them. I find oncoming vehicles alot more visible. Even on a clear summer day the vehicle with lights on is visible at a lot further distance than a vehicle without.

Not trying to preach, just want to know the reasons why?

If you have DTRL on your 97and if you bought it used, there's chance it's an ex-canadian truck. Where I live in Alberta, the brokers are prolific in buying trucks, putting MPH speedos in them and flipping them into the states. Our worthless dollar (well kinda, it's soared to be approx. $0.70 US in the last couple of weeks) makes it a pretty good business deal. In-fact, I sold a truck to a broker who was doing just that. Buy the truck for $20,000 canadian, couple grand of speedo and frieght and they are selling the trucks for near $20,000 US. With the exchange rates brokers were making $30,000 canadian per truck. Biggest movers are all makes of diesels.

If you know someone who bought a blue 98 Dodge 4x4 Sport in the Denver area, hey it might be mine.

Not sure if the VIN # check websites show vehicle origin?

Whether you like them or not they will go away after a while. The bulbs don't last very long.

When they first had them in trucks, after a while about half the trucks you saw on the road only had one bulb working. 3-4 months later no one had dtrls anymore.
