6.2 Engine Whine

Anyone else experience what i best describe as a faint whine sound within the engine. Sounds very similar to power steering whine but is not as loud and it fluctuates with engine rpms, so it is definitely engine related imo.

I took it to the dealer a few months back and they stated it's the oil pump that is making that noise, but i have never heard a gm engine make this sound before. Just wondering if i'm alone or if anyone else with the 6.2 engine or even 5.3 has experienced this sound? Have not had a chance to test a different truck on the lot to see if others make this noise.

Are you sure it's not the fuel pump?

The higher pressure fuel pump on these direct injection (DI) engines make a sound that older ones did not.

Not sure, is the fuel pump in the engine compartment because it doesn't sound like it's coming from the rear of the truck.

I believe there are two fuel pumps? Normal low pressure in the tank and a high pressure one near the engine. The tick and the whine should be normal; A lot of other GDI engines are a lot louder than this one (at least on the 5.3L I have - not sure on the 6.2L).

Mine does this also sounds like an old F**D with low power steering fluid and 100k on it. Seems to become barely noticeable once up to op temp.
