Aftermarket lights

So I installed eagle eys led lights in the bumper step on my '14 silverado and noticed my radio was acting funny. I disconnected the lights, reset my radio, sure enough it started working fine. Reconnected the lights and when I start my truck,the radio doesn't doesn't start up like it used to. Anybody have any idea why this happens?

I was just talking to someone about this the other day. He has a ford and replaced all the lights with LEDS.

My guess is because of the voltage on the leds is different than a 12 volt light.

You are getting feedback through the electrical system.

As far as why the radio doesn't turn on at all I am not sure. My friend said that when his leds were on it messed his radio up and he got noise through the speakers.

 

You could probably try a noise canceler or possibly google how to cancel the noise with a diode.

I would also maybe try grounding those lights to the frame instead of back through the electrical system. This should clear up the issue.

It turns on and everything but for a while it wasn't displaying my memorized stations. I reset it to factory settings and it's working fine, the only thing is, now the the screen that shows "my Chevy link" doesn't pop up, other than that it's good now.

EMI. Electro-Magnetic Interference

 

All electrical devices generate it, some more than others. There are ways to control it. Much of it can be in a radiated field. That can often be controlled by shielding or grounding metal housings. EMI that may get fed back thru wires can be controlled with a choke or capacitor.

 

Cheaper products for cars may not have EMI protection built in. More expensive automotive product are likely to have protection.
