How to cure lean running 5.3L? (2015)

Hey all, I recently had Lew tune my truck and so far I'm quite happy with everything but I haven't put on enough miles to enjoy the WOT fun! haha

Lew mentioned that my truck was running lean and mentioned it was most likely the K&N 63 Series intake leaking. I double checked all the clamps and made sure there were zero gaps. Unfortunately that didn't fix the issue. I ended up removing the intake and reinstalled while triple checking everything. I even replaced the K&N filter and fitting just to make sure I had a good seal. I disconnected the (-) side and allowed to sit for 30 minutes after the install. Also, the MAF appeared to be clean with no dust or debris.

However, my truck still appears to be running fairly lean as it will drop just below 500 RPM while idling.

As a side note, my intake temperatures during cruise (outside temp 85*-87*f) are showing over 100*... I assume this isn't correct? Also, I run only 91 octane gas.

If anyone has any recommendations or advice, that would be much appreciated

Shouldn't your tuner be able to add fuel to fix the lean condition?

I'll have to ask him that. He's having me send him another log after I put some more miles on.

Ask him to raise idle RPM to 600 while you're at it. I had Blackbear do the same on mine and the truck idles a lot smoother than at 500.

And your intake temps are probably from the K&N. The OEM intake box feeds "cold air" from the fender well. But the K&N is sucking air from the engine compartment which is hotter from the engine.

I think I'll do just that!

Regarding the intake, I'm considering removing it and installing the OEM one. I like the sound and slight increase in throttle response but the OEM intake system just looks like a much better design and higher quality. Maybe I'll look into just rocking the tube with OEM filter box..

I use the OEM intake box, and an Airaid intake tube. I had Blackbear look at log files before and after the airaid tube. They said nothing changed with the airaid. So its performance gains were null, but it sure looks a whole lot nicer in the engine bay.

This wouldn't have anything to do with your truck 'running lean'. You have to go by the sensor levels (which is what Lou was probably doing).

Try re-installing the stock intake, you might have goofed something up with the K&N install

I reinstalled it last night after inspecting everything thoroughly. I even swapped out the filter just in case. Everything is snug bolted down.

Are there specific sensor levels that I can monitor using the Diablo I2 tuner while in data logging mode? I'd prefer to monitor them myself to try and fix the problem instead of waste Lew's time.

Thanks
