2007 Silverado Sluggish

I have a 2007 Silverado, but technically I suppose its a 2006 because even tho titled a 07 its the 06 bodystyle. Anyways, its a 5.3 automatic flex fuel truck, it has little over 100k miles. It starts, drives, fine honestly, other than sluggish take off... not that I am entirely interested, but it won't even bark the tires at all. At times it even feels so sluggish it won't pick up speed properly, then all of the sudden it will lose the **** and sluggishness and take off properly and feels stronger than ever. I don't race, but once I did race my buddies work car, a 2001 grand prix v6 just high mileage stock work car, he smoked me and he had 3 people in his car I was solo in my truck. LOL... it was rather embarrassing.

 

I feel like the truck should be running better but I dunno what to do to get it out of its funk. I have changed out filters, oil, tranny fluid, general maintenance, spark plugs are good, I put new MAF on it. Any suggestions would be great, I know a little about GM having these trucks cut back from the factory? However, I feel like mine has actually something wrong with it possibly? It could just need a tune but I feel there is more to it then meets the eye. The check engine light is on but the only code it was given was MAF and I purchased a new one and replaced that but the light remains on. The light will come on then go off at random moments. Also I feel the colder it is and the longer is stills the more sluggish it can be until it warms up a tad.

 

Anyways, any help or input would be great before I have to take it to a professional mechanic, thanks!

Have you cleaned the throttle body? I thinks it's drive by wire and it could be sticking a little. They are pretty easy to clean and it can't hurt to try.

Thanks, I will try cleaning it this week. My father in law mentioned that to me yesterday as well, so maybe I will get lucky and that will do it.

Check and clean everything...plugs, wires, throttle body, air filter, MAF sensor, maybe even check inside the fuel tank for the fuel pick up sock.

I am, right now just waiting on this winter weather to give up. I am southern PA, its cold and snowy. I am really hoping I can clean up some parts and it will perk up and clear up.

Todays vehicles are very sensitive to weather conditions. The worst are hot and humid days. The torque management will usually kill the off the line power, preventing wheel spin on roads that are dry and clean. Not surprised a 01 GrandPrix beat your truck, even the regular 3.8 engine they had was a good torque engine. If it happened to be a a GTP, not many vehicles would take it off the line.

You likely need to do as suggested above and perform the maintenance work on it. While plugs are out, check compression. Also have fuel pressure checked. It is not normal for the check engine light to come on, you really need to find that problem as well. If the check engine light is on, the engine management may put the vehicle into a reduced power mode, something they called "limp home" mode. Personally I never had one do that, but did get the undocumented "walk home" mode twice on my '00 GTP.

Can't compare a newer car's power to a truck - lopsided power-to-weight ratio there. The truck's mass puts it at a disadvantage. Most cars right off the lot will dust our trucks in a drag race, unless it's a Prius, or similar econobox.
