2016 Sierra 1500 SLT option packages and Tow Mirrors

Hi Everyone,

Just wondering if the only way to get the Tow Mirrors is to order the Max Trailer package?

I plan to order an SLT, 6.2 L, Premium Plus and Z71. But my salesman says to get those mirrors, I have to get the Max Trailer pkg. When I do an online build and price, I can order separately with my preferred option.

Thanks for reading and for any advice you pass along!

I don't think you can get the Max Tow with Z71. But I do think you can order the mirrors.

Max Trailer only on 1500 trucks right from the order guide. http://www.gmfleetorderguide.com/NASApp/domestic/proddesc.jsp?year=2016&regionID=1&divisionID=2&type=0&vehicleID=17967&section=oi_def&page=4&butID=3

Mirrors, outside heated power-adjustable vertical trailering, upper glass, manual-folding and extending, Black; includes integrated turn signal indicators consisting of 51 square inch flat mirror surface positioned over a 24.5 square inch convex mirror surface with a common head and lower convex spotter glass (convex glass is not heated and not power adjustable) and addition of auxiliary cargo lamp for backing up (helps to see trailer when backing up with a trailer) and amber auxiliary clearance lamp
1 - Requires (PDD) Sierra Convenience Package, Regular Cab model and (Z82) Trailering Package or (ZW9) pickup box delete. Includes (DD8) auto-dimming inside rearview mirror.
2 - For Crew Cab and Double Cab models required and only available with (NHT) Max Trailering Package. For Regular Cab model requires (Z82) Trailering Package or (ZW9) pickup box delete. Includes (DD8) auto-dimming inside rearview mirror on all models.

same for the full power:

You can order the mirrors through parts, but it is expensive.

(FWIW, on a 2500, the mirrors are not part of a package, and can be ordered individually -- including on a Denali.)

Thanks for the replies guys; that's as i figured, must order with the Max Trailering package. If trailering with standard mirrors is difficult or even dangerous, I will order the GMC tow mirrors and have them installed. As i understand it, retrofitted mirrors lose the power folding but all other features are as the factory installed ones. The biggest thing I haul around is a 3 place enclosed snowmobile trailer.

I've already placed my order now but reading all the references to the vibration issue, that even GM acknowledges, makes me a little apprehensive.

Thanks again!

When I looked at adding tows to a 2015 SLT, it was possible to have it converted to power folding tow mirrors using GM supplied parts and programming.

If you ordered it with the NHT, what would you miss out on? You'd get better gearing and a bigger rear-end, but what does the Z71 have that you need and would it be cheaper and easier to add it to a NHT truck? I'm thinking shocks and skid plate, but am not sure what else you would miss out on.

Just curious.

On a Sierra Z71 is 'packaged' differently than on Silverado.

From order guide:

"Z71 Suspension Package, Off-Road, requires 4WD models, includes Z71 chrome side front fender emblems, monotube Rancho brand shocks and (K47) air cleaner, (JHD) Hill Descent Control, (NZZ) underbody shield"

Hill descent control is only available on z71. (it is for VERY slow descents -- works ONLY between 2 and 14mph)

It is different from grade braking and cruise grade braking that will auto-downshift to maintain set speed when descending long grades at highway speed.

Other items could likely be added through parts or accessories a lot easier than the mirror/rear-end/spring and radiator changes with the NHT.

Again from order guide:

"NHT Max Trailering Package, includes 9.76" rear axle, 8-speed transmission with 3.42 or 6-speed transmission with 3.73, (JL1) trailer brake controller, enhanced cooling radiator, revised shock tuning for increased control, heavier duty rear springs and increased RGAWR"

Trailer brake control can be ordered on added to any truck.
