Hey, i hear you and I appreciate you giving me this advice. I will shop around at other audio installers and see what they have to offer and i will also consider other brands of equipment. But i think this shop is going to be pretty hard to beat.

are you stuck on jl audio? another thing you could do is buy everything online, but with jl audio going to be hard to get everything cheap.

Nope, still open to other options.

These are the prices i got from the shop:

Front: JL C2 650 6.5" Components =$239

Rear: JL C2 650 Coax =$169

Amp: JL XD600/6 =$489

Sub: JL 12TW3-D4 Shallow Mount 12 =$249

Box: $119

This isn't including labor, cable/wiring, or dynamat.

Pretty much everything is close to retail except the sub.

Unfortunately this shop only carries JL and alpine products.

I will say this about JL... I have about $3500 (just equipment cost, no install or accessories) worth of JL in my center console boat and the mids and highs are the cleanest I have ever heard. I bought two of the "infinite baffle" 10's and installed and was not impressed. They have decent base but do not compare to a traditional sub in a box, so I would be wary of the shallow mount sub (not saying it is not awesome, I would want to hear it first). I now have two old 12's and two 10's in boxes down in the center console which compliment the system nicely, just cheap speakers I had sitting around but work great in the boat for the thump I need.

All that being said, I have shopped around A LOT for JL. JL tries to corner the market/dealers by putting a "lowest price the dealer can sell the speaker for" (cant remember their term for it) but basically, it is the lowest price you will SEE posted anywhere, and dealers are not supposed to price below it. I have found that if you call and get quotes (dealers wont just email you a qoute lower than the low MSRP), you can get MUCH better pricing. I even found one dealer who didn't stock much JL but would order it and basically charge you 10% above his costs.

I also have a friend who is a JL dealer who confirms the pricing lock JL tries to hold on all of the dealers, and try to enforce it pretty strictly.

what about going with alpine r & x with pdx amps.?

i would just say really think about it brand new jl audio stuff sells top dollar but resale drops considerably. also most people end up not being happy with what they get. ex. highs lack, or are to bright/ mids non exsistent, or not enough bass.

so just keep on mind of you drop that much you still might not be happy with it.

Jl audio is not a bad company just expensive.
