Random Death (i.e., cutting out)

My wife drives a 2001 Suburban 1500, two-wheel drive.  Every now and then, the car just dies (while driving).  I think it generally happens during turns because I tend to feel the power steering cut out before I notice the lack of engine power.

When this happens, the car starts right back up.

While infrequent, this seems like a pretty serious problem.  Losing power in a turn is one of the last things I'd like to do.

Has anyone else had similar experiences?  Is there any known problem that can lead to the symptoms that my wife's car is having?

Also, when moving from "Park" to "Drive" or from "Reverse" to "Drive" or Drive" to "Reverse" the tranny seems to be really slow to engage.  I swear that once I moved it to Drive and Drive didn't engage at all (I had to move it back up to Park and retry it one or two times).  Could these problems be related?

I had that happen in my '00 1500 Silverado.  I was making a left hand turn, and the truck shut off...  not only do you lose power steering, but you also lose some brake boost.

I took it to the dealer immediatly, and he updated the PCM, and it never happened again.
