Yes and no.

Non-Flex Fuel truck, and all I've done is have a tune made for me by BBP to run a 50/50 mixture.

I'm thinking of getting larger injectors, but not sure if I'll see an improvement that will justify the $$$ for larger injectors.

No, just a tune from BBP...that's the only thing I did.

You're going to have problems I think. I think the only reason your truck is running is because you're running some gas.  You need the sensor

That's the beauty of having a BBP tune with AutoCal. You can have tunes made for any mods you make to your truck.

I.e. if I add headers, I can get a tune for that and if later I decided I want to install a cam, I can get a tune for that.

I'm sure there are other handheld tuners that can be used, but I prefer BBP as they have great customer service and I think are more flexible with what they can do for me as far as tuning goes.

Well I have been running it like this for over a year with no issues, so I'm not convinced of the need of a sensor since the ECU has been tuned.

You're in CA, so you should give them a call and see what they can do for you...you probably won't have to wait as long since they're located in CA as well.

I had to wait until they did a tune here in TX, but once the initial was done, all other tunes are done via email....nice!

I wouldn't let bbp touch a pinto if I owned one.

They don't do Fords...to each his own I guess...but that's what I did and I have no problems and great acceleration/pull. Of course I also had them tune my tranny which helps with staying in the right gear longer.

Unless there’s been a change. The only difference between a flex-non flex fuel truck is the sensor, a hundred dollar option. Also unless there’s been a change, with the sensor you truck would tune up the truck by 25 HP. I think I would have went with the sensor.

Ok so I figured it out. You can run e85 mix without a sensor but only at the ratio of the tune. So let's say you need gas and the station doesn't have e85 to mix.  You're screwed and the vehicle will run like crap. Has to be the mixture the vehicle was tuned for and nothing else.  So it seems like a huge hassle to do it that way

I don’t understand your response. My GMC was E-85, ran well on all gas. The best on E-85. If I was going to run an engine tune I would run a E-85 tune. Running a tune for a mix of 93 gas mixed with E -85 would be a lesser tune for lower octane versus an E-85 tune. With the sensor you would get more hp out of E-85. You still could run other grades with self adjustment.

So how is the sensor different from a tune?

They both talk to the ECU to do operate the vehicle correctly without throwing a CEL.

I guess I should ask this question to BBP and see what they say.

Sorry to inform you, but your hypothetical analysis is incorrect.

My truck is tuned to run a 50/50 mix, and if I choose to, I can run 100% 93oct and not have any problems...I just can't run 100% E85.

I run 93 only during the cold winter months without a problem, so no biggie other than loss of performance if there's no E85 available.

This is factual and true data.

    • Question @diyer2 on this line if you please. Are you saying the shudder is the system turning on and off at the frequency of the shudder? Guess I'm asking if you are saying you have seen it do this with the bi-direction scan tool in graph mode? If so have you been able to discern the 'trigger'. Something is telling to cycle rapidly.    My truck just started doing this recently. 197K on the clock. My response has been M5 anything under 55 mph. I treat it like a lugging stick shift. Gear down and let it spin a bit. Engauge M5, then tow mode and then M6 lets the trans stay in 5th but the AFM is active. Smooth like Skippy.    My thought was that as a machine ages the friction gets lower and as the system is load based, the lower friction would allow it to turn on at ever lower rpm until it reaches the lugging point. And yes I am ignorant of any minimum rpm requirement for the system. If you know that would be useful information.    As you know I run a Scan-Gauge II which allows me to watch the On/Off of the signal to the VLOM. While in the shudder mode I'm not seeing is cycle at that frequency or at all for that matter outside the triggers @newdude posted a few years back. Now is it possible that the refresh rate isn't fast enough to catch it? Maybe. It is why I asked my first question about graphing and trigging parameter.     As we have observed from members here the failure point is all over the map miles wise as you note yourself in your opening post. That by itself begs a few questions like fellows that comment on these lifters failing even after the system has been disabled.     • UPDATE 2: Steering wheel control backlights and control of the cluster can supposedly be achieved by adding a wire to pin 20 of the cluster and tapping it to pin 2 of the main clock spring harness. I'm going to give it a shot - will update  
    • GM Global A pickups 2019-2022 can do OTA programming for the radio.  GM VIP (GM Global B) can do OTAs for almost every module on board.  So a 2022.5 and newer pickup can do OTAs for recalls like the 2.7 fuel flow recall.  EVs get OTAs that improve one pedal driving, radio issues, HVAC issues, updated battery management software, etc.     So age of the vehicle/what GM electrical platform its on will alter what amount of updates can be pushed on OTAs.  
    • Thank You.   So far my new ride is making me look like a genius for going with the 3.0L, as my first fuel refill occurred over three weeks from when I took delivery.  This engine combination is very amazing.  So far no issues and had not done a regen yet.
    • I am curious as to how much fluid you put back in the transmission ( assuming you had replaced the filter to compare to my findings ) and then went through the process of warming up the trans before pulling the check plug to drain out the excess and if you measured how much came back out.    I just found it surprising that some claimed a certain amount less fluid being put in and then draining some back out. The attitude of the truck as per if the surface is level and how the trucks stance is would make quite a difference since the check plug is right at the front of the transmission.
