Good bye after 40 years, GM!

I've had my last GM vehicle. My 2009 Sierra 1500 LT All Terrain was the worst vehicle I ever owned. To start, the front brakes shook like a dog crapping peach pits on a long decent with light braking. Two GM warranty repairs, and I finally figure out the front brake caliper casting is too tight, and it cost me two sets of shoes and two sets of rotors. The inside shoe would bind and not contact the rotor squarely. I filed out the casting and all was well.... Why couldn't they figure it out? Then I started getting cylinder 6 misfire codes. 52 thousand miles..... With Mobil One the whole time. Turned out the AFM lifters failed. The same lifters they redesigned when they finally came to the conclusion it was a problem. So I spent $2700 to have all the lifters replaced. Within 600 miles, the oil pressure went to zero. They dropped crap into the oil pan that went through the oil pump and destroyed it. The garage wanted $1800 to replace the oil pump and oil suction o-ring. I told them to just keep the truck. The price then went to $750, and I agreed to that. They fixed the truck, but my total cost was over $3500, and I was without the truck for a total of three weeks and two days. I was not overly pissed with the stealership, but I lost all confidence in GM. I thought surely they would value a life long customer more than that, so I called customer service. What a joke. They said they would respond within 48 hours, but after three days, they told me they contacted the dealership and they would not be reimbursing any of the repair costs. This after I told them it was GM's problem, not the stealership. So after over 40 years of exclusively GM vehicles, I'm looking at an aluminum truck. I currently have five GM vehicles! I've had probably 15 over the years, but that meant nothing to customer service. All I wanted was a partial reimbursement for my repairs on a truck with 52 thousand miles on it. Instead, I got a kiss-off. And the next day, I got a mailing from GM that they extended the warranty to 5 years for the rear springs which apparently break. The truck is 7 years old. And judging from the noises I've been hearing, the fuel pump is going! The worst vehicle I've ever owned, with the worst support ever! You suck, GM!

Sorry to hear that.

You'll probably get all those..."go to a Ford forum and check out the problems they have ...blabla".

I don't blame you to try the grass on the other side.

There is always a lemon out there.

It boils down to (at least for me) how GM deals with the problem.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck with the truck. Like I said, my 09 was a terrible truck also. Every other one I've owned though has been a better truck than that one.

Not going to try to talk you out of it because you're going to do what you want anyways. But I will say that try not to let one bad vehicle make you change your loyalty. My '98 had problem after problem with a lot of expensive problems, mainly how I drove it but some wasn't. So I bought my '14 and got rid of the '98 and I love the '14. It's my first brand new truck and so far no problems. Point is that there will be lemons or just you may have bad luck with a certain vehicle, but all brands have problem childs and lemons.

I also understand that how GM handles things mean a lot, but it seems like the only 2 problems the truck had were the brakes and AFM lifters which both were fixed. The other problem was caused by the dealership and to be honest there's no way you could talk me into paying a dealership to fix anything. If it's under warranty then dealership, if I have to pay for the fix then I go to a trusted shop. I guess it's ironic and a little funny when someone calls a dealership a stealership yet they still pay them. The only thing I've let a dealership do in the service department was the free oil changes and tire rotations I got with my '14. Now that I've went to them 3 times the 2 year maintenance warranty will be up before the 4th one so I'll start doing it all myself.

Yeah.... you "might" want to do that since I have killed every Ford and Dodge I have owned since 1975 GM is the only drivetrain that can take my abuse

I don't blame you either. Every brand will have problems there is no doubt but when they refuse to stand behind their product it leaves a bad taste in your mouth. To me brand loyalty is silly because they have no customer loyalty. When I am looking for a truck I test drive GM, Ram, and Ford and get the one I like the best. I hope you have better luck with your next truck regardless of the make
