Brake Issue

Recommended Posts

I have a 2000 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4.

I noticed that when I pull out of my parking spot at work, if I have my wheels turned, and I go to stop, the antilock brake kicks in.

I'm not going fast, maybe 5 mph or maybe not even that?

After this happened and it may be coincidence, but my brake pedal pressure seems a bit softer.

I was told this could be a ABS senor going back.

Any thoughts?

Thank you

I'd check the ABS sensor on your front hubs. The mounting area is known to get rusty and will cause issues with the ABS. Just be real careful when removing them so to avoid damaging any of the wiring. Clean the mount surface real good, as in down to metal. Also be careful not to let any rust and stuff get down into the mount hole. Then reinstall and test.

Have fun with that. Get a 5lb sledge, short handle. You will need that to get the hub free. BTW you will need a front end alignment once you get it out because you won't believe how hard you have to pound that sucker to free it. My first was done by a GM class 'A' mechanic in the end because I didn't apply enough force. Put the new one back in with a coat of never seize just in case your truck lasts that long you have to do it again.

Wasn't too bad of a job. Took my time and it took me about 1.5 hrs. I did have to tap on the original hub with a hammer but it came off fairly easy.

I think the hardest parts was putting the dust shield back on, it kept wanting to interfere with the rotor, but I finally got that cleared and all back together.

Works nice now.

Next project, a new water pump and a driver side rocker panel.

Thanks

Thank you.......

This truck has been very good to me since I got it around 10 years ago so I really can't complain about it.

Just glad I found this before I had to do some hauling to the track. That could have been a disaster in the making!
