Delayed Engagement on the 8L90E

I want to see if anyone has actually had this TSB done and if it actually works? The only issue I have with my 21000 mile 8L90E is it lags from park to whatever gear and otherwise it's fine. I have been reluctant to even bother with trying to have it repaired as I don't want another 8L90E ( mine is a good one that doesn't make noise, clunk, shift stupid or otherwise) so I want to retain my transmission.

Has anyone had TSB 16-NA-014 done on their truck? Did it actually fix the issue of the delayed engagement into gear or not?

Feel the same way. If I remember to take my time and let the truck warm up bit I have no issue with it. Jump in and throw it into gear and have delay and hard engagement.

Maybe someone will jump in and update.

Wow they have a fix for this I might give it a try

I called and they said they do a reprogram first and if that don't fix it then they do that

Yeah I am not going to bother... the slow engagement now and again isn't worth the effort of trying to make GM do anything about it... nor do I want them taking the transmission apart... putting it back together wrong and just making things worse. Power to you if you want to get it done!

Well I have had my transmission replaced and was hoping it would fix it along with the other problems but it did not and everyday when I get off work and put it in drive a sit there and wait and it jerks or slipes before I can go it's very annoying so if I can get it fixed I want to and hopefully they want mess it up worse but if they do well it's on them thay can put in another transmission last year with the 100k mile power train warnety so I have some time

I have no warranty so it's out of pocket... and my truck has absolutely zero issues beyond slow to go into gear. Shifts good... drives fine... no clunk, jerk or slip. The only jerking the truck ever did is remedied with disabling the grade braking. Not interested with the complexity of the job.... on a transmission not one guy with 1000 miles of here would have even touched before lol... cause every time you call it's always " we have never heard of this complaint before" lol. I would be better off getting the parts and doing it myself... or have a guy I know that builds some pretty stout transmissions here do it. It's a pretty minor annoyance with a complex solution.

Stands to reason too... not one person thus far has had it done either!

Hi Rme2513,

I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing concerns with your truck but I'm glad to hear you're sorting things out through your dealer. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you would like me to provide you with additional assistance while working with your dealer. Have a great day.

Kindly,

Anthony Z.

The reprogram was not the fix for the transmission but A fix for the transfer case it might even be a recall but I have to take it back up there for the delayed engagement problem later and IF they think it's doing it they will order the parts and fix it

I'm on the fence about this. Mine is getting worse and afraid the jerking going to wear on everything else. It's just a f#$%*ing hassle trying to convince the local dealer here it's something other than normal operating condition. No way should it rattle your teeth or spill your coffee going from P to D. I would like to read this TSB in its entirety but I can't find it :ughdance: .

It's apparently 12 pages of disassembly and repair... if you don't focus on it and forget about it you just stop caring lol. It's like everytime I read that vibration BS thread I swear mine vibrates... then I forget about it and no it really doesn't lol.

It's hard not to focus on it everyday when you get off work you have to wait on it so your transmission does not slip and jerk before you can leave so yeah I have to focus on it its at the dealer now and I'm sure it will take them all week just to look at it and then tell me they can't replicate the problem I had an appointment for Monday morning dropped it off Sunday night went by Monday afternoon and it was moved to the back and no one knew nothing about it Prince of Albany Ga sucks in service almost every time I go up there someone is complaining about being there for a 2 hour oil change and there on there third service manager in 2 years

Meh... too picky lol. I know..... you want it to be perfect and work right and I don't blame you I guess...... But mine delays into gear too... and I just don't care. The Ford I had previous did it too and they wouldn't fix it either. Hell I could mat that thing once I shifted from park and it would stutter, clunk, slip and then light up the tires. My 2015 Toyota Tundra clunks into gear too..... so don't buy the wonder mutt Yota everyone has a hard on for and expect it to be better. Its never failed and I just got used to it and just let it build pressure and move. I would rather a delay than the truck sit at some idiot dealer forever while they never fix it.. or make it worse. I plan on enjoying my truck with an Armageddon turbo kit... but hey.. if they fix yours eventually after the 10th time and 2 or 3 tranny swaps later or whatever good on you. I would just sell it at that point and buy something else before I did that.

Well parts are ordered and they have another parked beside mine with the same problem. I'm a believer of there going to make it right like it should of been when I bought it. my truck is paid for and I'm not about to go buy a new one because they want fix it have some balls and make them fix what they could not get right the first time
