Installing 12" subwoofers under my seat help

I recently purchased my truck and I am looking to install my subwoofers under the seat but I'm having a really hard time getting a box for it. I try looking up extended or double cab boxes but basically the only thing that pops up are crew cab boxes and I have no clue if that will fit or not. Any ideas or suggestions?

Measure your area and find the measurements for the box. Match them up.

How many 12's are you looking to cram under the seat?

 

Just a suggestion here, 2 10's in a properly sized box will probably sound better than 2 12's in a box that is built too small due to size constraints.

I went thru this whole ordeal. I have a crew cab. The sites like sound off audio and such make under seat boxes for 12s but they are for shallow 12s. A Conventional 12 I have measured and won't fit without doing the seat lift mod and even then the cu ft needed for a 12 will probably be to shy and as jdkno stated won't sound right. You can have a custom box made to house 8 inch subs...2 or 4 and should definitely surpass a too small box of 12(s).

What 12's do you have in hand? What is the mounting depth? If the depth is shallow enough you might be able to get a box built that would work for 1 of them. Then you could sell the other to offset some of the box cost. Or sell both and use the $ for something that is easier to make work.

Thank you for your help, unfortunately I went to install my aftermarket radio in my truck today not knowing that I have to cut out the middle piece of the factory radio harness to fit my deck into it. I have no idea if this will void my warranty or not and have no idea if I should do it.

What truck are you installing in (year and trim)? On the newer trucks most people are just installing an amp and subs with the factory stereo, you lose too much functionality otherwise. This is my first truck to not have an aftermarket head unit.

I have always installed my own stuff since I got my first truck at 15 in the mid 90's. Back then it was simple everything was din, double din, or din & 1/2, you unplug the old and use a Metra harness adapter for the wiring and you were good to go. Now days the head unit is so integrated into other systems I wouldn't even try to replace the head unit on most vehicles.

 

With regards to finding a box, I would try to find a local shop and see what they would charge to build a box. I have never bought a box online but I would imagine shipping something as big as the back seat made of MDF can't be cheap. Here is an easy way for you to figure this out, slide one of the 12's you have under the seat magnet down. If you plan for them firing up you will need to add to your actual sub measurements 3/4" for the bottom panel of the box and I would say minimum an inch for space between the face of the sub and bottom of the seat. So if you can slide your sub under there do you have the extra 1.75" above it? If you wanted down fire you would want 2" between the face of sub and floor so if you can get the sub under the seat does it have 2.75" of clear space?

With my aftermarket radio I actually bought the almost 200$ kit so I can keep everything thats included with my truck other than the center console aux hookups which everything is BT so it doesnt bother me. Ive also come to the conclusion that it may just be easier to sell my current subs and rebuy shallow mounted subs so its less of a hassle. And TallSpawn Ive looked into hooking up subs to the factory amp and its way to much of a hassle to do, and alot of the converters require cutting factory wires which I dont want to do. The factory 4" headunit just bugs the hell out of me. If i try to turn anything up, it feels like its being to loud and dampens the sound to almost nothing. Coming from a fully loaded impala to something I cant really touch is making me go out of my mind.

 

Also, this is what I would have to do if I wanted any aftermarket head unit to fit.

Yeah, that's a lot of work cutting up the dash. Hopefully I didn't say it but wrong, meant that most people buy an aftermarket mono amp to power subs and just have to tap into to get signal. That's what I'll be doing soon, I feel you on not being able to change much but I do like the 8" system on these trucks.

 

Once my subs are back in and I can take some of the lows off the factory Bose I'll be happy enough.

Yea its going to be a complete pain, but I spoke to a installer this morning about it, and thankfully he actually just did my exact truck last week. And said you just clear it out and take out the modules, but the main thing he said was that if I ran into trouble and needed back in, he can create the bracket to hold the modules back up if it ever came down to trading it in or getting rid of it. And your lucky with the 8", I got the 4" knowing I would be replacing it but not actually knowing what was back behind it.

I did the same thing with my truck but ended up going to a audio shop and they installed my head unit it's a Kenwood excelon ddx393 I love it has a great multiband eq. As far as the subs I too had 12s which required 6inches of mount depth but all I could find were down fire shallow mount boxes. I ended up buying one of those cutting out a hole for the magnet to stick through the back and then framing up a MDF box to go over the magnet and sealing it all together the extra part just sticks up into the bottom of the back seat but you can't feel it when sitting on it so all worked out well. My box claimed 1.25 cu ft of space which is my subs bare minimum I lined the inside of the box with polyfil from Walmart and once all the eq setting were right they sound great to me.

    • Which has made me wonder with the various engine failures of a few brands in the last few years, is it sub par materials such as lifters etc causing failures, or bearing clearances on the crank etc or perhaps bad designing of an engine physically or causing too much load on the components due to the hp/torque they can push out of them. Or is the oil viscosity and additive package of current oils or a lack of oil flow by an oil pump not able to supply sufficient oil at idle or under high load at low rpm. Or is it every item I listed that combined together has pushed the limits so far to the left that there is hardly a margin of safety left and add in some fuel dilution and too long of an OCI and premature engine failure is the result ?. 
    • He is not saying that an SAE *W20 will have more viscosity than a *W40 due to MORE VII polymers. He is saying that although multiple *W40 may post in the PDS the same or similar 100 C and 150 C viscosities that the blenders choice of modifier TYPE and AMOUNT to get his chosen base to grade will not give identical real world viscosities in shear and at temperature. All will pass the SII test but not all will pass the 100 C HTHS (unpublished value) testing the blender does and relies on to get the required by law "percentage improvement' referenced to his last great work.    Tis the problem with the lie.     • I have a `25, 1500 that auto sets on incline. Never knew that at first. I have the electronic shifter. Just think if it didn`t do that? Unlike a mechanical shift that you can muscle out of park, how would you get this thing out? That would be a problem.   What I found out later is, I don`t have to push the button to release. Just put it in gear.   Setting parameters? Don`t know if it`s possible.

I usually set the parking brake (habit) when on flat ground for typical driving.    When backed down on the launch ramp to launch the boat and I place gear selector into Park, the parking brake activates automatically. My second nature is to set parking brake manually and noticed I was turing the parking brake off.  The parking brake appears to be setting itself automatically.   I looked all over my owner's manual and only found references to being on an incline and manually setting parking brake, or at times parking brake will be auto engaged, but nothing specific to my situation.    When is the parking brake automatically engaged?  Under what specific circumstances?  Can the auto set parameters be changed?     I like the auto set feature.  It would be nice if always engaged when shifted into Park and released when shifted out of Park (like my wifes 2025 RAV4).   Thanks!
