timk49 Posted May 28, 2003 Posted May 28, 2003 I spent the Memorial Day weekend in the mountains and had the opportunity to help two people change tires. The first one was for a young guy (late 20s) with wife and little kids. Their Jeep Liberty got a flat in the middle of a rough canyon road that was to narrow to allow me to pass. The wind up bottle jack that came with his vehicle was so hard to raise that he strained his back trying use it. I had to finish the job for him. In addition the vehicle was on an uneven rutted road and when the jack was all the way up the tire still didnt clear the ground. I had to let it down and fetch some blocks from my truck to put under the jack so it would work. The second incident was a Silverado Z71 with the Goodyear Wranglers. The owner told me it was his third flat in as many trips to the mountains on that set of stock tires. He was in his late fifties and had a lung problem and a bad back. No way he could crank that jack handle long enough to get the tire off the ground let alone change the tire to. GM has to come up with something more people friendly than the present torture devise they call a jack. I guess thats GMs way of getting even for those of us who dont subscribe to ON STAR.
Wingnut Posted May 28, 2003 Posted May 28, 2003 I don't think GM could come up with a 3 ton floor jack that would fit behind my seat though Tim But you would think that if they could make the mid-gate thing in the Avalanche work as well as it does....Jack technology wouldn't be such a stretch. Apparently not. I agree with you on the Onstar part too. My truck has/had it. All the equip is still there. But without an extra 30 smackers a month. I get this useless, ugly little antenna, and some equally useless buttons on my mirror. Like I need help finding a restaurant. The only time I ever used it...I just pushed the button, and when they answered...I said..."I'm Batman, and I need some jet fuel." She didn't find it nearly as funny as we did. It's good that you are a man that will actually stop and help someone though. Not too many of you around.

MarkD Posted May 28, 2003 Posted May 28, 2003 This is one of the major short commings of GM trucks. I hope someones "listening"
ToeJam Posted May 28, 2003 Posted May 28, 2003 Hmmmm I guess I'd better see if my Hi-lift will mount to my rig...and then start carrying it under my seat.
RyanbabZ71 Posted May 28, 2003 Posted May 28, 2003 i have my 3ton floor jack in the bed Havent needed it yet knock on wood. My bottlejack that isnt worth jack is sitting in my garage taking up room. I know it wouldnt lift my truck 0.001mm off the ground
