91 GMC Sonoma Help

Hello,

I am a proud owner of a '91 GMC Sonoma 4.3L V6 Regular Cab and I wanted to ask some experienced GM people about what steps I should take for maintenance. I bought the truck at a fair price with the understanding that there will need to be work done to it. There is a little bit of "white smoke" at start-up. I've been keeping an eye on the fluids. I am at a slight disadvantage because my gauges do not work, except for fuel (which I am not sure is %100 accurate), oil and battery. Everything else has stopped working unfortunately. The "Check Engine" light will come on every once and a while, as well as the "Emergency Break" and "Check Gauges" lights. The truck has some rust, but is overall clean. Part of me wants to get the gauges fixed so I can get a better understanding of how the truck is running, but I am not sure it is completely necessary and worth the expense to get them working again.

Does anyone have experience with this truck? Or, have a better understanding of these trucks that I can learn from?

I love this truck and want to keep it running for a long long time.

I had an 89 S10 for a while. But i had the 2.5 with 5 speed. It threw a rod at 199,xxx, but kept moving for another 8 or so miles.

White smoke coming from the car's exhaust pipe when you start up is not a big thing and no need to worry. This is most likely due to an accumulation of condensation in the exhaust pipe. I would have your gauges rebuilt! how else will you know what's going on inside the engine compartment?
