Adding power options to 2006 Sierra WT

I recently got a 2006 Sierra Ext. 1500 Work Truck and I am wanting to begin the process of adding power options. I mainly want power windows and locks, with key-less entry if possibly but not needed, and if I'm able to I'd like to add a few more such as power mirrors or even a rear view mirror with temp/compass data. Ultimately, I'm not sure what years or models I can pull from with 100% compatibility. I understand that wiring may not be there and I am prepared to deal with that, but I want to be able to pull from junk vehicles and get as much of everything as possible in one run.

I know I will need switches, motors and regulators, and more for the power locks and windows. What else will I need and what years/models can I pull from? What are my limitations for these options? I've heard that 04 and newer have different wiring from 03 and later, so I'm assuming 04 and up is my limit but I have yet to find a thread anywhere to confirm any of this.

Thank you.

I could be wrong but I think this could be a can of worms.

You may have to consider the computers. :happysad:

In a nutshell, easiest way is find a wrecked truck, take panels, harnesses, bcm, motors, and switches from it. Your limit to work with is 2003-2006. 99-02 had different wiring

From the time I've been researching this, I had a feeling some modules/computers would be needed. BCM is required? Does it need to come off a Sierra? With my year range now being 03-06, what are my models? I'm assuming Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon, Silverado, and Sierra? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Going full swap, stick o the trucks. BCM is what controls all the electronic goodies.

You will hate yourself by the end of the decision to swap... Just enjoy the fact that you don't have to worry about window motors and lock actuators failing. You basically have to install all new wiring harnesses, BCM, and panels thru out the truck...

I'm fully prepared for any frustration. Just got to find my donor truck(s) and get to it! I'll keep tabs on this thread in case someone else chimes in with anything else I could need or advise.

I swapped in all the options on my 2000 Sierra, but as said before, 99-02 is different. All I had to do was swap in the dash harness and door harnesses for the power options. I needed a new bcm for the keyless entry and I also had to swap the roof harness for the auto dim/compass mirror and overhead console. Fortunately for me, I had a donor vehicle and didn't have to buy anything separate. It's really not too hard of a job and took me about 2 days to get done. I know they aren't the same, but very similar. Good luck!

So I started piecing it all together today. I got the door wiring harnesses, power mirrors, and switches from a 2004 silverado. BCM is from a 2004 sierra, and door panels from a 2006 suburban. A Frankenstein for sure at this point xD

Issues:

-Truck wouldn't start after installing new BCM. Putting original back in fixed it. Do I need to perform a relearning process?

-Even with other BCM in, power options would not work and discovered some missing pins in the IP fuse block that would normally match up with the door harness. I'm asumming I need a different fuse block? Any other wiring needed behind that?

-Truck no longer detects the driver door is open (I already installed the power lock and harness on this door). Could this be fixed with the BCM/Fuse block issue?

You will need to do a security relearn for the BCM. 30 min key cycle process. As for the swap adding an option like cruise control is plug and play but you will be missing some of the necessary wires in the IP Harness to make everything work. What you can do is get a donor harness and de pin it and run the wires thru the dash for the things you are missing. Would still be work but would save you from pulling the entire dash.

Makes sense for the BCM. Even if it's from a donor truck the relearn will work?

I did something similar to what you were suggesting for running wires where they need to be. I ran two wires from the battery to the two orange wires for the door switches. One to the DDM and one for the windows. Power mirrors would work 100% but neither power lock or window control would for that door.

As for the truck not detecting the door is open I think is due to the DDM. Since that sensor is now ran to that module and I don't have the serial data line connected (I'm assuming is how this works).

I took a volt meter for my windows and found 12+ volts between all 3 pairs (orange and ground, orange and window up, orange and window down) at the DDM. The last two pairs confused me because they shouldnt get power unless I throw the switch but it was hot all the time. What makes it more strange is that the pin for the power windows are not caring 12+ volts no matter the position of the switch. While connected, I split the two wires to the window motor open and applied 12+ volts to each one. The result was a major draw on the system and some sparks.

What am I missing here?

You did replace the door lock with the 3 plug one correct?

Yes the BCM will do the key relearn no problems.

Make sure you hook a jump pack to the truck while doing the key relearn. volts drop below 11.5 and the key relearn will fail.

Yes I did, but I think the DDM intercepts the signal to the BCM for that function. So until I get that completely connected it probably won't ever detect that the door is open.

Okay. I'm assuming that either a regular battery charger or simply putting jumper cables with another car would work too?

You need the dash harness, door harnesses, under dash and left side dash fuse blocks, bcm, door lock actuators, regulators, and switches. I did the conversion and it was well worth it. Text me if you have any questions. 9122947207

    • Yes, and also pulling heavy trailers or a large camper up steep grades as well as descending grades such as the more rustic off road camping locations and using engine braking with that low gearing as well as soft ground can just suck the power . I realize pickups these days tend to have an over all lower first gear ratio compared to automatic transmission pickups from years back so that has helped a lot in its ability in high range but there comes a point if in four wheel drive the torque runs out at the wheels, certainly with a gas engine. They don't put two speed transfer cases on pickups for a cool factor, they have a function if one needs that massive torque to the wheels that high range can't deliver.
    • Notes 7/18/2026   3,400 miles on this batch of Mobil 1 Euro 5W40 since the GDI pump replacement. Alcohol runs very clean when ring seal is tight and the sump isn't getting hosed with fuel. Checked oil level at fill up today as is my practice and grabbed a white Kleenex to look at the color. What color?  I was going to change it but.....
    • 4 low is really nice on steep boat ramps.
    • Interesting, I suspect I would have fueled up in Lee Vining as the day prior I would have filled up either in Laughlin or near there and maybe again before I entered Death Valley and once out the other side late that evening as I kept on driving into the night up near Lee Vining. Next morning I most likely fueled up in LV before heading over Tioga Pass into ( as I refer to it as "Yose .... Mite" 😁 ). And again that was 19 years ago but the price then must not have jumped out at me like the 5 bill a gallon theme of nutty cult hippy country Big Sir or head so far up their rear Aspen. I'd be curious to know where the highest prices are in the lower 48, I probably would not be far off to guess somewhere in Cali forn ie. Coldfoot and Prudhoe bay may have those prices beat but that is a whole other world up there and when prices are more normal elsewhere that is about what they can be up there I believe in no mans land. Anyway interesting that the 395 corridor is hosing people and the thing is, its tourist season and its not like there are a lot of competition options when driving up that highway from what I could see. Yup, big ole Boaterhomes and various other RV's ahead and behind me at the Yosemite entrance gate and they have to get their fuel somewhere.
    • Those can be high, as well as the big California cities. The ones that will pop your eyes out are the 395 corridor on the Eastern side of the Sierra Nevadas. Lee Vining, $7.19 for regular and $8.89 for diesel is what the Google said right now.
