Paint protection and tint

I just tinted my 16 yesterday. 5% brow, 5% front windows and 15% back five windows. Looks great, can't see in during the day but can see out much better than 5% all around at night

You guys with the 5% are crazy! I had 20 around on my Jeep and 28 on the front and I had a hard enough time seeing. Going to do the brow for now and leave the front untouched since it's illegal

yeah I meant 5% drivers and passenger doors and brow, I would never tint the actual front windshield.....too many liabilities.

I meant the driver and passenger window too. Where I am from that get you pulled over in a heartbeat. But places can be different I realize.

How does the 16 ride in comparison to your 14. Pretty much the same?

Personally I am against paint protection. Personal choice but I prefer carnuba wax. I have also seen some terrible paint protection jobs start to 'yellow' and look real bad. Also GM does not do a 3500 grit wet sand and polish / buff every vehicle rolling out of the factory and every factory car/truck has some orange peel in the paint if you look closely. I spent 2 days wet sanding the entire thing and then polishing and buffing and just my opinion but it is 10x better than factory paint now. I could not have done that if I had the paint protection applied. You will never see a silver metallic paint job on a lot that looks like my avatar and I think the results speak for themselves.

This is an untouched hi res image from a $2500 canon camera my neighbor took.

As far as tint goes you should check local laws, some have restrictions. I do not know what you mean by 'brow tint' is that a slang? I did once have 5% tint on my 06 charger and had real issues seeing out and backing up at night. I would not recommend 5% for anything except like a show car as it really is not very functional and just for the looks.

my 2c anyway but do whatever makes you happiest as always.

Usually a customer has their car detailed right before the clear bra is installed. Some people won't care about the orange peel and just want the protection, others have the paint corrected first. Just personal preference.

If you want that perfect look, do it first and then do the clear bra. You'll have no issues.

Fair point but I also bet most detailers would not do the entire vehicle. It was no small task let me tell you and this is not first vehicle I have sanded (and painted) either. By no means am I a pro painter and also lack any artistic talent my only benefit is my best bud since forever has a family paint-shop. So for me it is just easy and I was taught to spray in a straight line. I also had to get rid of orange peel before I was teased to death about it lol. Does look way better though and I would recommend doing it professionally for anyone that wants a true showroom shine.

My 16 is a lot quieter and a lot smoother than my 13. Not super smooth but both had 20" wheels, this drives much better. Worth the upgrade.

My 16 rides alot better than my 14 All Terrain but then again that truck was a total POS nightmare. Electrical issues that no one could fix. I bought a 16 that had a tiny amount of transport damage that the dealer fixed before I took possession, in the five days it was being repaired I drove a loaner. When I went to pick up the new truck I asked the salesman what they were going to ask for my truck and he stated, "ooohhh man we've been having all kinds of problems with that!" I said, "it's almost like it spent 21 days in your shop and ya'll didn't fix anything" Here are pics of my tint from this morning...

So I had a 2014 Sierra brownstone with the hood protection, looked great, worked great. Traded to a Emerald green 2015. Now if there is dust in the air or just the minerals in rain water, it sticks to the 3M and looks terrible as it is all you see compared to the truck paint that does not hold the dust/minerals. But yes it stops rock chips ha

My friend is an installer of protective films for many years. Been to Sema to meet with the companies regarding also. He started w/ 3M many years ago and it was one of the worst for many reasons. 3M lost a lot of market and had to improve to catch up to competition. This last year he switched to 3M after being won over by 3M and all the supposed improvements. Within 3 months he switched out of them as they are still one of the worst. I have suntek and lots of rain here in Florida. I have no issues and it has a factory shine. I do keep it waxed as that is important for the dust and rain to run off nicely. I don't get any spots. But if it's pretty dirty and get a light shower I get spots. Would have with paint too.

I did PPF on my 09. Didn't get it done on my 14 because to much damage already (4000 miles). Installer said it would look terrible if he did it. I touch up the paint all the time. Next truck....no question. It will be done.

I'm taking it in to get SunTek tomorrow. They're doing the bumper, grill, mirrors, front fenders, and the first 18" of the bumper. At some point I might add the pillars and the roof

Do the hood, bumper, 1/4 front of fenders, and mirrors. I haven't had an issue (yet) with the pillars or roof, on the 3 trucks of this new model.

I got a DIY roll from Amazon, we shall see, Planning on doing the first 12" on the hood, rocker panels, door edging, door sills. We will see how it goes on before committing to anything more.
