Does GM put an additive in the factory oil fill to help engine break in?

No. It's just oil. Break in is heat and load.

Then I guess it wouldn't hurt to do a quick oil drain after a few thousand miles. Although 8 quarts of mobile 1 synthetic ain't cheap

Engineer I used to work with ran mobile 1 synthetic extended in his minivan and did 50k miles oil changes. Last I heard he was over 300k miles and had only done 6 oil changes. He figured if he made it to 200k miles it would be cheaper to replace the engine than replace the oil every 3k miles.

Another incorrectly speaking engineer....say it's 30.00 bucks for the oil and 5qts for the v-6 minivan and only using dyno oil of your choice....obviously 30.00 is way higher than you would spend per oil change @ 3,000 miles =2,000.00 bucks

 

Now you gonna get that engine and installed for less than 2000.00?

Engineer's Bill $120/hr+ like lawyer's. He was also calculating lost billable time at work for each oil change trip. When mobile 1 first came out they said it was good for 25 k miles so he figured factor of safety of 2 built into that.

Heading out for a cross country trip in mid August pulling a travel trailer. 4-6 weeks and 6000 miles +/- est. for the trip. I have 2600 miles and about 75% oil life on DIC. I will have the oil changed before the trip considering distance, and towing. If they don't do free, I will still change it out at my cost. Small price considering the demand I will put on the 6.2.
