Help, got rear ended!

Well got rear ended this past weekend while on a trip to the beach with the family. I took the truck over to body shop for an estimate on the damage.

 

Basically the hitch got pushed down and in, bending the frame with it behind the hitch mounting locations. The estimator said they can pull that right out. Everything i have searched says you cant pull on these new GM frames or they become unsafe.

 

I was quoted under 3 grand in repairs wich include replacing front and rear bumpers/ brackets, hitch and pulling the frame, also a 4 wheel alignment. The frame is def bent but nothing crazy. Does this all sound right.

Sounds reasonable.. but don't be afraid to get a second opinion from somewhere else. In fact, I recommend it.

Did they check to see if the bed kissed the back of the cab?

 

I was hit hard from behind and bent a class 5 hitch, bumper, and a minor amount of sheet metal...the cab moved and touched the bed which dents the back of the cab. I did not have that fixed because I had 5th wheel hitch rails installed...but it's something to look at. My frame didn't bend though (possibly a design in the hitch mounting on the 3rd gen Dodge 2500?), but it wrapped the hitch down to the point it almost touched the ground.

 

As far as the hitch, I would never trust towing anything again if the frame bent...maybe something small, but not anything near max weight.

As far as cost, I was into that damage at over $3500.

^ The bed looks fine the tailgate also looks good. All the body lines look straight and the gap around the bed and cab measures out the same one side to the other. Most of the damage looks confined to the rear bumper and hitch, especially where the hitch mounts to the frame. Behind of the leaf spring mounts the frame is bent.

 

I scheduled a second estimate, we'll see and compare. Also submitted a diminished value claim, funny how companies turn clueless when you bring that up.
