2016 GM 4 inch Round Assist Step Question

My 2016 GM 4 inch Round Assist Steps part 22805437. The are round with flat spots to stand on and bend inward at the front and rear. My question is the 4 inch Round tube part doesn't have a cap on either end of it. So the whole interior is open to moisture, snow, salt, mud etc. Does anyone else have these steps? Does yours have a cap on the end or is it open? Just curious if the dealer installerror forgot to put caps on the end.

Mine do not have caps on the ends.

Neither do mine. Once they start to rust up I'll go to a hidden system.

Allot of them are that way not just GM's Closing them off would just trap water inside.

 

They have a better chance of drying this way.

 

I just shove hose on one end and try to rinse them out in the spring to help get ride of any salt.

Ok thanks all. Just wanted to make sure the installers didn't forget to put caps on it they did exist.

On my 2016 GMC Sierra my 4'inch chrome steps (stock) are open on each side. With the mud flaps I don't think not too much will get into them. I am not too worried about it.
