275/60 vs. 275/65 another tire thread need opinions

I know this topic has been beaten to death and then some, but I'm going to pull the trigger on some better tires for my '15 CC 6.2 which already has bilstein 5100's @ full height & an extra 1.25" in rear blocks - I was dead set against going w/ 275/65r20 or 285/55/r20 due to the substantial increase in weight & the coinciding mpg/performance drop, but w/ how expensive a new set of tires is I also don't want buyer's remorse wishing I just went w/ the more aggressive/slightly taller 275/65r20

Narrowed it down to the following for 275/60's that aren't super heavy:

Wrangler duratrac in 275/60 is 46 lbs but is 57 lbs in 275/65

Nitto Terra Grappler in 275/60 is 42 lbs but 59 lbs in 275/65

BFG KO2's, which I want, are nearly identical 275/60 is 55 lbs 275/65 is 57 lbs - may as well go w/ the 275/65 if going that route

The stock wrangler SRA's are 39 lbs FWIW

I do have an extra set of black 20"s that are about 8 lbs lighter each compared to the 20" AT rims, I did think a compromise would be running my winter tires on the stock wheels & running the heavier AT tires on the black granite alloy 20"s instead...they're a few years old & could use some clenaing but look good

So - has anyone gone to 275/65 on the stock rims & really regretted the performance/mpg drop??

Hands down the BFG's are the best looking IMO & I already know they wear/ride well.

M Y TRUCK IS 4X4 6.2 whatever standard gearing it comes w/ I'm guessing 3.23 or 3.42 w/ 8 speed

I was thinking this same thing for 2 weeks. I was changing wheels to Fuel Savage same specs as stock 20s. I had decided to run the Michelin LTX MS 275/60/20. Mounted them after the RC level and hated the look it just looked weak with the street tread design.

I gathered a set of BFG KO2 in 275/65/20 hoping for no rub and no noise ride complaints. Mounted them and only had to tie the rear inner fender liner back and it was perfect no rub. Once on the street I absolutely love the tires, sure a bit of noise that can be easily drowned out by a slight radio volume and yes you can tell they are 10ply AT tread as you feel it a bit rougher. With that said the perform on dry,wet and cornering incredible! They far outperform the crap Goodyears which left you scared anytime driving in rain and felt like jello in corners. Wet traction is insane! I was traveling back to FL when a downpour hit,I felt so stable even in flooding waters.

So to sum it up looks are hands down the best, performance is incredible compared to other AT brands I have run and I have run a lot. I have noticed a 1.5mpg loss at h/way speeds only over 75 mph under that about the same. Speedo is off 4 mph now.

My background is in auto repair and customization as I own a shop in Knoxville TN doing Jeep and other Truck SUV work. I have run all brands from Goodyear,Nitto,BFG,Bridgestone,Continental,Hankook and others as we are a dealer for all tire brands and for the tire size the BFG is hands down the best!!!

Forgot mine is a 2016 SLT 4d 4x4 had the factory 20 chrome clad wheels.

Thanks for the comment, actually checked back on this old thread as I pulled the trigger on some 275/60R20 BFG K02's last week that I won't install until the spring since i run a winter tire/wheel setup (layaway @ a local tire shop).....but I had recently found out that my winter rims are 8 lbs lighter than my stock 20"s so I'm swapping snow tires to the stockers & will run the BFG's on the ligter aftermarket wheels to help offset some of the weight gain, instead of adding 17 lbs per corner it'll only be 9...I'm sure I'll still lose some mpg but if they're going to fit no issue I'll take the extra 1/2" of ride height over the 275/60's if I'm only gaining 2 lbs

    • Average Assembly 4.8%   That's the likelihood of a light duty vehicle reaching 250,000 miles. Link below has the stats on this. Among pickups the 350 series (Dodge)  and higher (450 Ford) are most likely and nothing American built in the lighter trucks pegs a number higher than the overall average.  200K and up is the stomping grounds of Asian vehicles. Toyota Sequoia the leader at 39.1% probability.      https://www.autoweek.com/news/a68886903/vehicles-most-likely-to-last-over-250000-miles/   Likelihood drops dramatically at 100,000 miles of reaching even 150,000 miles. 250,000 is deep in the tail of the curve.    I've been told by the 'experts' that I don't need oils of the caliber I use. My high viscosity is damaging my motors. Ash content it to high and WILL foul plugs and kill cats and O2's. I don't need that much ZDP; my choice is over added and not cutting edge. I change it to often. I baby them to much.    Three Honda's reached 200K + and none used oil. All Red Line motors. All sold to friends or family. One Toyota reached 300K using oil, Pennzoil. Dizzy 300K using QSUD until it cashed the rings at 80K then whatever but often ever since. Did you know this engine still sports the OEM timing chain and is dead silent? Pepper spitting into the wind short of 200K, Red Line and changed often. Uses zero oil. A HPFP and a pinion seal. Still using most parts it left Fort Wayne with. So 50% of my vehicles have gone past 250K and 100% of the last half dozen past 200K. Of these two using "shelf oils' did so using abnormal oil and the four that used a premium boutique oil did not. There might be something there the experts have missed. 🤔
    • i dont know where you been reading...they make a top notch product..people say lots of great things about them..yes it can be difficult to get a hold of them when you need help sometimes put when  you do it is great service...   as for the actual question at hand i have the ccv mod and i vented to atmos in my case...I got my ccv from somewhere else but i have plenty of VSE product...for starters i use their tuning on my 22 duramax
    • It's not that it sits for extended periods. I drive it every couple of weeks. However, I did consider draining the DEF and replacing it.    Don't you get a "Poor quality DEF warning" if its bad?
    • Try draining the def and relacing with new if it has been sitting for a long time. Def does go bad after a little while.
    • Thanks @Viktorrocks15 if you are still out there.   I followed your instructions and worked out great, went to the scrap yard and procured 2016 escalade cluster, hud, bezel, and switch. Got lucky and found a Camaro in the u-pull with the HUD bezel.   I made my own harness with these diagrams: https://www.gmupfitter.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/23_Escalade_Escalade_ESV_Electrical_Body_Builder_SM_en_US_2022OCT25.pdf   I used escalade cluster because its the best one that will work IMO. Still need to get it programmed but it looks really good.
