Vleds SMZ Bulbs

Yeah definitely get that bracket fixed before worrying about the flicker haha If you can't get just that part might have to get a new housing. I bought a pair off eBay fairly cheap. Well compared to dealer prices that's for sure.

I spent the better part of the morning looking for factory gm projectors but all I can find I'd aftermarket spyder crap and the fxr projectors.

I'm gonna try and roughen up the outside of the projector housing and epoxy it back in since no one will ever see it anyway except me. As long as it sticks, I won't mind it

Ah that sucks! Gotta do what you gotta do right!? As long as the bulb stays that's what matters.

Would you recommend it? Could you post photos of them when you get a chance? Thanks

Passenger is xle Sylvania or something along those lines. High quality bulb from an autozone or O'Reilly's. Driver side is the SMZ

Wow huge difference. Did you get the 5000k or 6000k?

Hey guys, little update. The low beams (h11 for silverado) are extremely unreliable unfortunately. Although bright, I can't understand why sometimes they'll work and other times not. Now although that sucks, I'm still hopeful. Vled has said there's a drl control box that should fix this problem coming out towards the end of August. So I'll hold off on sending back my h11s until I try that control box. Still going full Steam ahead with the brights though.

I emailed them yesterday asking what I would need to fix any flickering if I run into that problem. They answered me saying that they haven't tested them in our trucks yet but they have a set of these coming out for DRL in September that'll fix the flickering. That's probably what they were talking about is that box.

Now what do you mean by "sometimes they'll work and other times not"?

That's positive to hear then. As far as the lights" flickering", they don't flicker at all. If I leave my "auto" feature on at all, the bulb will illuminate for at least a few seconds then go out like it's not getting a steady supply of current. But even when I flip it over you the manual headlight "on" switch, it'll continue to stay off. I have to shut my truck off and restart it for the bulb to illuminate again.

I did seem to have better luck if I turned my headlights on before I turned my truck on however. Like I said, I'm confused about the whole thing

I didn't get any pictures if under the hood because it was over 100° yesterday and air conditioning with a beer sounded much better. But I did get this higher quality pic showing driver side bright compared to a halogen on passenger side bright. And they match my 6000k fogs better than this pic looks like

Great news guys, they're in and functioning and bright as hell. I ended up taking my headlights out and installing... So much easier to make it clean and water tight. Just be very careful drilling holes in the dust covers. They're over $30 a pop for the low beam ones if you screw up

What did you do differently to get them to work?

install was super easy. basically just like changing any other bulb. all the wiring fit inside the headlight. no cutting hold in dust cover, etc.

How was install?

When I turn the truck on, the lights turn on and flicker off. After that, I turn the light function completely off then back on and the lights will stay on with no problems.

I cut a hole in my dust covers and sealed them with silicone. I didn't want to leave them in the dust covers because:

A). The cooling ribbons put off quite a bit of heat. More than I anticipated

B). I felt the bulb put off enough heat by itself without the cooling ribbons inside that tiny confined space, and didn't want it overheating

Finally got these installed, lol only took over half a year. First attempt was stalled after the caps vled sent me did not work since they had yet to create them to work with this headlight back when they were first sold. Had to buy a newer set meant for this bulb and now works like a charm, no issues with the auto lights or daytime setup. Works just like a regular bulb except for these are at minimum twice as bright but the color of the light is what makes the difference imo. Very happy with the results and the xb fogs combined i can see again at night.

    • Thanks everyone for the help!   I'm going to stop into the scales one of these days and weigh my axels, for the time being, I am going to run Toyo's recommendations and also do a chalk test. I have a tire shop that's going to try their scanner to reprogram and set the the factory psi values lower, and if they can't I'm going to order a scanner and do it myself!
    • You won’t do better than stock exhaust without headers. Just put your favorite muffler on it and it will do the job.
    • I have seen different people in different places post different sizes of exhaust as stock for my 2014 Sierra L83. Some say 2.5 some say 2.75. I am considering replacing the muffler with a Dynomax Super Turbo, perhaps 17739.  I had the factory L83 5.3 replaced with another L83 5.3 from Jasper Engines. I also put new Walker Cat / Y pipe on. I would appreciate opinions suggestions about what would be a good muffler setup. My main interest is a low rumble and the best flow / fuel mileage I can get. Not interested in straight through glass packs or loud exhaust. Those days are way behind me now.  Thanks Guys.
    • Its coolant disguised as oil.   TSB 20-NA-166 -  20-NA-166 1..3   "To inspect for this concern, add coolant dye to the system, run the engine through warm up, pressurize the cooling system after warming the engine to operating temperature (let the engine cool overnight) and inspect the suspect cylinder with a borescope for coolant dye evidence. At times it may be necessary to remove the head for inspection. If the head casting line is the concern, the intake port will be wet with a coolant oil mix"     I'd say its the head, and its either leaking at the casting line and dripping down the intake into the cylinder, or its another spot on the casting itself at the cylinder that is getting wet.
    • Can you sample the pooled liquid, enough to confirm it is oil?   ...That its not fuel or coolant.   Also, make sure combustion gases aren't entering the cooling system.   Simply put, either oil being pushed up past the rings (this really isn't possible), oil leaking past the head gasket, oil leaking past the valve, oil entering through the intake air path. If none of this is likely - it may not be oil.   What could be likely is the fuel injector leaking down. A puddle of gas would still smoke and rough idle. (Same cylinder has the same problem after injector replacement?)   What is the crank time first thing in the morning, when the puddle would be present? Does it seem like the high pressure fuel pump needs an extra second or two to rebuild the pressure that injector 8 may have let bleed off? Check the fuel pressure via a scanner prior to starting the engine.
