2016fifteenhundred's Silverado Crew Cab LT Build Log

Well I figured I would start a build log to keep track of the work I'm doing.

The dealer installed Line-X for me after a less than desirable experience with my truck initially (all good now).

Started out with installing a Soundstream RN4.1400D amplifier and Hertz HSK165 components. I don't have pictures of the install process but it was pretty simple. I used Knu Konceptz 4 awg wire and ran it through the boot on the drivers side. A lot of people had trouble with this I read, I used a coat hanger and was able to get the wire past the junction box above the brake pedal with relative ease. While I had the cover off of this box Installed my remote wire to a vacant accessory pin and ran it up behind the head unit. I used Stinger Speedwire for all of my wiring. I ran two runs of speedwire on the passenger side one to the inputs on my amp and another from the outputs back to the speaker wires. I was able to bypass using any kind of harness by wiring it this way. I installed my tweeters in wedge mounts on the sail panels and they turned out great. I installed my crossovers in the doors and for my mids I used a dremel to cut out the factory speaker and still utilize the housing. I installed F.A.S.T. rings to help keep the sound coming in to the cab, these things are awesome.

My next plan for the stereo is an Audison Bit Ten DSP and then I will add a subwoofer and amp. I am thinking I will install a Fi SSD 10" subwoofer in a ported box at about 32 hz. Power will come from a Soundstream RN1.2000D which will give it 1000 watts RMS at 1 ohm.

After installing the stereo I debadged the truck. I love the way it looks sans logos. Very clean IMO.

I have a billet grille and bumper inserts on order, those will be installed this weekend as well as deleting the relfectors from the headlights.

My fiance got me an early wedding gift, a 7" Full Throttle Suspension lift kit and powder coat (very lucky guy). The lift goes to powder coat today, the powder coat will match the paint on the truck. I can't wait to get wheels and tires and install everything.

Currently, I think I will be going with a 22x12 Hostile Sprocket wheel and a 35" Toyo Open County R/T.

Eventually I will have to do a Black Bear tuner, Magnaflow exhaust and an intake, maybe AFE for the intake? Not sure.

Anyway, follow along if you want! I'm really excited to build this truck!

Little update, truck should be going in next week. I ended up going with SOTA Awol wheels in 22x12 and 35" Toyo Open Country MTs. Headlight are getting clear reflectors and switchback LEDs.

Welcome fellow truck stereo guy!

Haha thanks! I've always dabbled with installs for other people never really did anything for myself other than my boat. Decided if I'm gonna have a new truck and do some thing to it the beat should be right! haha

Also, I'm thinking about changing the window trim from the black to the chrome like on the LTZ. I think with the wheels and grill and cleared headlights it will tie in well.

Truck is at the shop getting done, headlights won't be getting done for a couple weeks however as the reflectors are in pretty high demand.

I really can't wait to see the completed front end on this thing.

Still waiting on my wheels and tires but should have them by next week hopefully. I have the grill at the shop that is doing all of the work and the reflectors should be in soon as well.

The lift turned out great, I'm really happy with it and it rides nice. I'd like to look in to new control arms in the near future.

This picture shows the lift, you can see a little of the powder coat, the tint and the LTZ window trim pieces that were added.

Also ordered a magnaflow muffler for it and will just cut out the stock muffler and piping to the back, weld in the magnaflow and run a turn down.

One thing we are looking in to is 4 linking the rear end and putting it on air ride so I could still tow and stuff. I wouldn't be trying to mess with it a lot in terms of "hitting switches" but it would be something neat and different. If I do that I will probably do the control arms at the same time and bring some chrome in to offset the powder coat. We would probably end up powder coating the rear axle as well if we did all of that work to the truck.

My truck is typically a "pavement princess" I didn't buy a brand new truck to beat the hell out of it, I've got other vehicles for that so I'm trying to have a little fun with this one.

haha thanks. I love the debadged look.

Gonna take this thing to my builder on Saturday. Leaving for Cabo on sunday and then coming home the following weekend to see how she turned out. Then I can fork out some more dough for AMP steps and finish the stereo. After that I'm gonna take a break for awhile. I really want to put the front end on coil overs and clean up the wheel well as much as possible. Lot of stuff in there that's exposed once you get it up above the tires.

4 linking the rear end is probably going to happen next year. Just paid for our wedding and the other parts on this thing, as much as I want to do it now it's going to have to wait. Christmas is way too close for that right now hahaha.

    • Late reply, but yes—it works on the SLT trim. Compatibility comes down to the plastic shroud shape behind your mirror, not the trim badge itself. On the SLT with auto-dimming, it uses a plug-and-play Y-harness off the mirror/rain sensor power, so no need to run wires down to the OBD port. If anyone's ever unsure about fitment, just drop a photo of your mirror housing and we can double-check it.   Appreciate the detailed feedback on the install! On the windshield glare—we actually took feedback like yours and developed a dedicated CPL (polarizer) filter to cut down dash reflections on sunny days. If you're still running the cam, shoot me a DM. I'd be happy to send a CPL filter over for you to test out—no charge.
    • There are no stickers in your glovebox?
    • Look at the numbers on the stickers in the door jam...
    • Yes, every time the developer updates his code, you must recompile. I will private message you with the latest because it changes pretty much with every version.
    • After I wrote that reply I went for a ride. 85 F out. So trans started at 85 F and it shifted the same as it did an hour latter at 168 F. I've never actually recorded the to cold to shift point but it is under 32 F before they start hanging on to a lower gear or leaving the converter unlocked. Both intended to heat fluid.    Yes, brake or bake. Absolutely.      Your welcome. True research ended decades ago. Field trials are still in play.    There is a thing called oxidation onset temperature. This is the heat related oxidation not the O2 exposure kind. For mineral oil that starts at 140 F. So what happens after 140 F? Each 20 F cuts fluid life in half! Does using a Full Synthetic improve that? Yes! By how much? Depends on the base oil type and a few other factors. But enough to notice. Some esters are even higher. There are even synergies between types the will raise it higher than any one component is alone.    Then there is "Hindered" oils. Antioxidant additives. Hindered Polyol Esters can sit at 500 F for years in a turbine.   When a blender brags his oil will 'take 500 F" in service he doesn't specify for how long. Water will dance on a 500 F hot plate for several seconds. @newdude put up a chart showing the relationship between fluid temperature and it's life in an automatic transmission. Here's a version of that chart for Group III based oils. These temperatures are those in the pan as observed as 'normal'. that is you drive as you do for as long as you do under what load you ask of it and whatever that temperature is this graph applies to. Flash temperatures of a few minutes isn't what his means.    Note that fluids held at a constant 240 F have a service life of only 20K miles. 220 F explains the factory exchange limit, eh? My equipment I keep under 180 F and I'm good if the cooler will hold it as low as 140 F. But that's me.
