The first month I had the truck, from the day of delivery, the voice recognition worked fine. One month in, you cannot tell it to "call" and then say a name. It says it does not recognize or acts like it is not hearing you.

I can tell it to tune to any radio station and it even seems to work somewhat ok with the nagivation.

But after working great for a month, the voice calling just stopped working.

The dealer is stumped, the service manager said he was going to "email GM" but that was 3 weeks ago and he never called me back

They tell me there is no update available and nothing to "reset". The service manager suspected that On Star was somehow to blame as he said the My Link works with On Star

I'm pissed. Its a feature that was sold to me and it worked for a month and I want it fixed.

Any ideas as to what to do?

Is this Onstar or phone operation?

I'm disappointed with the voice recognition as well.....most of the time I get...."voice command not recognized". For example, I'll say "call...wife...home" and the system will not recognize that? My 2015 F650 has never misunderstood a voice command. I don't speak like I have a mouth full of marbles...

I know this is not going to make sense but it happened to me and the damn dealership reset the software and told me it was working again (2 separate trips to the dealer) and it was not actually working. The 3rd time they said they needed to call a GM engineer. I hit the forums and found a thread on here were people with this issue went into the language settings, changed it to a foreign language, then changed it back to English and it fixed the issue. I tried it and it work. Problem hasn't come back. Called the dealer to tell them so they could add it to their book of knowledge and they seemed uninterested. I'm sure the service department didn't even document.

Anyways, change your voice command language to something other than English and then change it back. You can do it in settings on the intel liking system. It should work.

Changing to a different language, and then back to English also fixed my issue.  Good find, and great advise.  I was told by the "stealership" that the only thing that they could do would be to hook up to diagnostics ($55) and then determine if a software upgrade was needed ($80).

This fix noted above worked for me.  Very simple.

On the screen, select HOME, then SETTINGS, the LANGUAGE.  Select another language, exit out.  Go back through the same steps, and select English.  Suddenly, voice commands are working, as intended.

Thanks again for the help.

OK, just started happening in my 2016 Sierra. I'll try the language "fix" tomorrow.

Worked great this AM, ran an errand, got out of the car for 5min, get back in, start her up, and, bang, will not recognize a voice command to make a call based on my contact list.

I can say "Call 5551212" and it dials thru my phone

I can read and listen to text messages, no problem.

When I say "Call  Bill   at  work", i get, "what type of destination?"

one minute to the next, quit on me.

I'll report back.

This started happening to me a couple of months ago.  I figured I would have to reconfigure my phone with the truck and was just waiting for an open day to do that.  Did this "change language" thing instead and now I can make calls from my truck again!

Glad to see this is still working for people. GM should really put this out to their techs so they know how to fix it.

I was having this problem with first with my Buick Encore and then with my GMC 2500.  It was very frustrating. After having spent hours trying to unsync and resync my contact, delete Bluetooth and reconnecting it, this fix finally did the trick. Simply changing the language to Spanish and then back to English fixed it. I’m happy and my wife is elated!  Thanks so much!

Any other tricks that worked? Tried changing the language & the speech recognition is still not working. Very frustrating.

UPDATE. Called Onstar and my issue is resolved. With the car running He had me completely delete my phone from the car, forget this device from my phone, turn car off, shut phone off/restart, open drivers door, shut drivers door, restart car, go to settings/device and pair phone again. Restart car.. i can now make calls using voice recognition on steering wheel.

Can’t find language settings to try this on my 2017 Traverse! Any other suggestions?

    • There are probably a few threads talking about fuel mileage but this one seemed to fit the stats I have seen based on my typical local driven route but with different outcomes based on different seasons/temperatures. I have a few hundred pounds of items that consistently ride on the truck at all times such as a bak flip cover, rubber bed mat, tools and extra fuel so I would be something over 8100 lb without me in the truck. All these examples are based on a 100 mile round trip to a town plus running around town so maybe 110 to 120 miles in total for a trip. Using regular fuel and I assume it always has some ethanol in it but don't know the percentage they blend in. Also speed wise I am going at 62 mph and non aggressive driving although less speed yet if its crappy winter condition roads. I am going by an initial reset of the computer generated fuel use numbers averaged over a couple of thousand miles or so for each weather/season so they may be more optimistic then actual hand calculated numbers. Basically this is painting a picture of doing the same drive but seasonal conditions and temperature being the major variable to the end result. Oh and although I am in Alberta Canada, I am converting it to miles per US gallon so there is no confusion.    So winter time it gets cold here, no real surprise there and the roads can be clear at times but also often have packed rough snow or are are driving through loose snow ( they do a poor job of plowing the highways ) and yes this includes the extra idle engine time due to trying not to freeze ones butt off. 12.7 mpg is what I was getting during the winter months on average.    Then during the spring when it was around the freezing point and the highways are clear of snow, I was getting around 14.25 mpg.   Summer time, I have been getting around 15.15 on average but certainly some of the trips showed quite a bit better fuel mileage, so much depended on how much or little I had driven around town and number of engine restarts after sitting for a while at each location. But stating a best fuel mileage trip to town pretending that is what the truck gets on average is fooling ones self for sure !.      As I said in a different post, I had driven a 645 mile trip over a couple of days stint to a different destination then these other daily to town examples above, and was done during the summer with nice weather and not bucking a head wind, also keeping at 62 mph and its a rolling landscape type highway drive ( this isn't southern Alberta or Saskatchewan flat lands ) Hand calculated fuel mileage in this case though and it came out to 17.65
