2016+ stupid unpainted plastic piece above grill

Hey all, im looking at a 2017 Sierra 1500 SLE or SLT. My question is why the F did GM have to have that dumb unpainted plastic piece in the centre part at the top of the grille surrounding. Looks so stupid and with it being so flat, over time dont yall think itll show signs of wear? Shouldnt it be painted atleast? hows your holding up and how many miles on it?

Also, besides going with a Elevation edition which is only offered in double cab base model truck or all terrain edition (only offered with centre console), is there any way to get painted bumpers from the factory? I need the bench seat in the front.

I think he means the mailslot in 2016 and 17 Sierra grilles.

We have been asking that question since they debut ourselves. The 2017 question seems to be why are all the mirror caps also painted black now.

Probably stuck with chrome bumpers if you want a bench seat, if its must have probably need to paint it or could always plastidip way cheaper folks have before. IMO painted bumpers get dinged up too easy so dip is a great compromise so you can redo every year if you want. I vote avoid the 1SA Elevation looks nice on outside not so much inside but to each their own.

Is the "mail slot" and the unpainted plastic the OP is referencing the gap in the center top of the chrome grill and immediately below the lip of the hood?

If so, I like the look. Quick glance distinguisher to ID '16+. Plus fog lights. But it integrates nicely. Can't imagine it'll ever show signs of wear. None more than every other front cap surface. Plus, it's shaded anyway...

And if you're talking about something else, I've wasted my typing strokes.

No comment on whether it looks stupid on a Sierra, but the black plastic bars sure look great on the Silverado, helps to blackout the front and give a mean look yet keep the egg crate appearance. Plus polished black finish matches the headlight surrounds, bowtie and tow hooks.

And at least the bottom rub plate is metal and not stupid chrome covered plastic frequently used in grilles.

As far as the "mail slot" in the top center of the grill, I read somewhere that it is supposed to look like a hood scoop. If that is the case it would have been nice if that had made it functional. Anyway I like the look.

I cant honestly say that i ever really noticed it until this post. The appearance of the whole front end has gotten nothing but compliments froms friends and coworkers. Especially the headlights on the '16 and the led fog lights too
