Ride/Handling of Large Sidewall Tires?

I've been lurking around these forums for a while now looking at what everyone is running and really like the look of the 17-18" wheels with tall sidewall tires on them. What I'm wondering is how different the truck would ride and handle as compared to the stock 20" Goodyears? I would most likely get a more aggressive off road tire as well. Is the ride softer with the larger sidewall? Does it seem to wallow around in corners? Size I'm considering is 285-65-18. Thanks for any insight!

I think there is more factors that come into play. Rim width compared to tire width, tire pressure, tire quality not all tires are equal, rubber compound soft vs hard.

A wide tire on a narrow rim can create alot of stability problems.

If I'm not mistaken that truck is on 18 X 9 rims with the BFG KO2 285-65-18. Just trying to get a general idea about stock vs these sizes before I drop a bunch of cash and hate my purchase. Granted I am absolutely thinking in terms of looks, but I still have to drive the thing too.

You're really not going to notice much difference from the sidewall height alone. It's not like a 285/65/18 has a super tall sidewall. As stated, the change from a passenger rated street tire to an LT truck tire will make more of a difference than anything.

Gotcha, figured they would make a difference from street tires but didn't realize the AT or MT tires would be that much different. Still worth it; they look awesome.

Yes, I agree. Sacrificing a bit of comfort for good looks is worth it to me too.
