Aftermarket tweeters...placement

I'm curious on the ppl that have upgraded their stereo....where did you place your tweeters for the best sound. Currently mine are on the door in front of the mirror as getting wires thru the door to the body is a b#&-+. Curious if you've gotten wires from the door to the body how you did it and where the tweeters are placed...door or dash or?

I spent a lot of time looking at the Body Harness to Door Harness during my side mirror upgrade from DL8 to DL3. I know that there are pins on the connector that are "not occupied" according to the Upfitter Manual. If it were me, I would obtain the terminal leads and insert them into these open spots on the connector. The Upfitter Manual discloses terminal part #s. I have been able to order these for the Rear View Mirror and for the Fuse Block to add some circuits cleanly.

Not much help for tweeter placement, but what I would do for the wiring to get it from the door to the body harness. The connector is X500 for the Driver Side and X600 for the Passenger Side for references.

The biggest obstacle I'm finding is the rubber between the door. Snaking the wire thru the accordion like rubber is a pita. I struggled for 1/2 hour before I just said next time.

I'm going to put them in the flat spot above the grab handle and same spot on drivers side. Will get them on axis...

I had tweeters in the dash location, never sounded right coming off the windshield. My wife's '15 Volvo XC60 has what I consider a really good factory system. Bass is defined, vocals, instruments, etc are all defined and presented well. I believe the fronts are 6x9 components with tweeter located on door trim at the mirror, just seems like a natural spot for speaker placement.

I placed my tweets in the factory sail location. Not perfect, but pretty stealth. These flush mount Tweets can be aimed to improving imaging.

To run the wires..... I was not comfortable drilling out the factory connectors nor was I willing to splice and pin my new wiring. I ended up taking the door off, drilling one hole in the door jamb and covering with new rubber door grommet. Be sure to clean the are metal and apply touch up paint to prevent any rust.

I love the area you placed the tweeter. My only fear is drilling that area and then someday replacing or selling and having that hole. That looks awesome though. My pioneer tweeters have 2 pods. One flush mount unadjustable and a 2 angles to get a few positions but not the best it seems.

Are you still running the dash speakers or did u disable them?

My goal with any modification is that it #1 looks factory and #2 can be returned to factory. In this case #2 was not possible, so I ordered a spare set of sail panel covers to keep on hand for $65. Cheap insurance.

I grew up in a body shop, so I am not nearly as scared to take one apart as I should be. Only 5 bolts in the door. Really simple with a 2nd set of hands. Much cleaner than drilling out a full molex connector.

I'm running 3-way active with Helix DSP audio setup so I've replaced everything but the rear doors.

Custom brackets from HDPE. AudioFrog GB25 in dash. Nearly direct replacement.

Wow. I looked up your audiofrog speakers and a set of pioneer TS-S062PRS that I saw sirbOOm use in the caraudio forum and those are some steeply priced speakers. What's a good $100 or so pair of speakers for the dash area?

Primarily because I already had them I installed the Hertz in my old truck about 3 years ago. I would not hesitate to go with either. Actually lean towards HAT today, but mainly because I've had the chance to speak with Greg at HAT a couple times during my install. They stand by what they sell.

Sorry should have warned you.... Audiophile prices are not for the faint of heart. I bought from a dealer for about 30% off crutch field prices. Keep in mind that this is the most used/important speaker in this install. If budget conscious I would skimp elsewhere.

There are not many options in the 2.5" class. A few high end options are the only I know very well. A 3-4" coax might be easier to find if you have the install skills to bottom mount on the underside of the speaker grill. Really depends on your goals and budget.

Lol don't get me wrong... I have upgraded every stereo in every car I've had but I think the most I did for a set of speakers was 200. I'll have to see what my options are for that area.

Adding a good aftermarket dash speaker...do you think this will be like adding a turbo...a massive upgrade?

Given a good amplifier with clean signal and dsp, YES! Drop the ball with any of those three and maybe not huge improvement. These gold plated unicorns buy you a lot more musical depth at higher volume. Restated, They play lower/louder which makes for a more natural sound at higher volumes.

Do you have the OEM Bose upgrade already?
