Column shifter not shifting out of park.

So I was working under the car today doing some exhaust stuff, and after I lowered the car, I tried to start it and move it. It started up fine, however the column shifter felt kinda loose, and it won't go into gear.

 

The shifter will move up and down like normal, except the car just stays in park. Any idea as to what happened?

Check the shift cable. Sometimes the bushing on the transmission end fall out.

Could be a bad shift interlock solenoid as well - the switch that communicates PRNDL to the ECM. If there was no signal there it wouldn't know what to do.

It did end up being the shift cable, however anyone know how to keep it from falling out? I'm guessing the bushings on the level need to be replaced?
