OBDII diagnostics

I have been checking out various diagnostic programs on the net for reading OBDII information off of my truck ECM. There seems to be a wide variaty and some of them seem to be the great..reading pretty well everything from codes to sensor outputs etc. I want one that I can load on my lap top computer and read information in the most user friendly manner. Is there anyone here with experience usin any of these programs? If so what are you using? How much did you pay and what recommendations would you have for me in decideding what to purchase? If possible I would like to get something that is somewhat generic as well so that I can use it on other OBDII vehicles. Thanks in advance for any responces to this post.

i bought this a while back. THIS THING IS COOL. it sits in your OBDII port and records. i got the bigger memory model which can hold data for up to 300 trips.

i also lent it to a co-worker and he swears by it. after it records the readings (you specify reading types [5 to pick from 20]), you pull it from the OBDII port and plug it into the USB cable to your laptop. Software is provide that graphs the results.

NOTE: this product won the best of CES 2003.

I use this one OBD2 Runs on my laptop, which I travel with.

It is basic but reads/resets codes. Has real-time displays for o2 sensors and others. Fairly easy to use. I got one cable that works both for my Tahoe and my wife's Winstar. Of course I'm constantly reading and reseting codes on the Winstar. I believe they price it based upon the number of manufacturers you want to connect to. I got Ford and GM and I think it was ~$130. Paid for itself several times over just reading/reseting codes.

I have no experience using others so I can't give you an opinion.

I've got one that runs on my Palm. It will record, playback, graph and show live data. Can read and clear DTCs, and has a DTC data base. http://www.auterraweb.com/
