GM radio volume issue after gm mechanic relearned vin

I have a 2009 GMC sierra all terrain and i purchased a gm radio from a 2010 sierra to do the usb upgrade.

the gm mechanic preformed the VIN relearn on the need radio and everything seemed to work great. I pulled my phone into my new USB port and it started charging the phone, playing my music, allowing me to change songs, etc from my steering wheel controls. chims worked, everything basically.

BUT, there is no volume control, meaning the sound is either at FULL blast, or off. from the off position i only have to turn the knob 1 click to the lowest setting and instantly the goes to the max, about make me go deaf. so basically becuase of this i cant use it.

I know the new head unit worked in the other truck so i believe the tech programmed something wrong on the unit, but i dont know. I do know it was his first time doing something like that.

I have a GM tech 2 with the candi module and everything else. But I dont know what to do

Is there a way that I could reset the head unit, start fresh and redo the process???

I am at my witts in. no dealership in my area even knows what im talking about and that was just when i was calling around to check prices on a VIN relearn

I would be forever grateful for any help. thank you

Funny how modern automobiles have become like a Microsoft PC - sometimes they just need a "reboot" to clear out the gremlins.

I'd bet that radio had to be reflashed with a J2534 - maybe the file got corrupted between GM's website and the dealer's computer, or pass-through device.

Whoever thought it was a good idea to invent a way to involve computers in automobiles was an a*%$hole.

my tech 2 is saying it has no comm with my bose amplifier. I have bose sound system. could this possibly be an issue?

From my understanding the radio can be programed three different ways. And I am sure that if I am wrong someone will jump in and correct me. But the three ways that it can be programed is (Based on your RPO codes). No amplifier, analog amplifier or digital amplifier. Sounds like the radio is not programed for your system. That being the case the radio is unable to control the amplifier. So you have full volume or no volume.

ok it just got really weird. I was driving along with the radio off and my phone started ringing through my speakers. I was able to use my bluetooth to talk and even weirder is i was able to turn the volume up or down while on the bluetooth call.

but i have no volume control when i am playing music either through the radio or through my ipod.

My tech 2 says the radio is fine.

I think you are correct, i was with the technician when he did the vin relearn and he couldnt find the appropraite information for my system, he programmed it as a base radio without bose.

so now I cant communicate with my amplifier and i am unsure what to do. Im going to order a 3 day pass to TIS2WEB and see if i cant reprogram it.

he shouldnt have even needed to reprogram the radio to do a vin relearn from my understanding. i didnt quite understand what he was doing and i didnt want to tell him i thought he might be doing it wrong as he did it as a favor on the side after work. I had the vin relearn tech 2 instructions printed out with me.

i got it working after hooking up my clone tech 2 to tis2web sps.

the gm tech didnt have the audio, tuner, or equalizer software modules calibrated to my trucks correct RPO's. which would make since because he never even looked in my glove box when programming the radio.

I am so excited right now!!

Thanks!

There's something to be said when GM's own techs cannot even fix what GM has created. Sad times we live in!!

Glad you got it figured out.
