Hiding the big hole in your front bumper.

I installed a Fedar grill over my transmission cooler hole. Looks great and that hole was about the only thing I did not like about my truck. They come in black or polished aluminum. I went with black , seemed to go better with the High Country white bumper. Instructions that come with it want you to take the factory front grill off to work from behind. I did not remove my High Country grill and I was able to do it all from the front by using 1/4 " by 1 1/4" long SS carriage bolts that slide in from the front and go through the bracket behind the plastic sensor holders beside the big hole. I had to use a wire fish tape to pull the bottom bolts through. Then you put a fender washer and nut and tighten it up giving you 4 studs, hidden behind the trim and slide the mounting brackets that come with the grill over the studs, put another washer on there and a lock nut. You will have to drill the holes on that bracket to fit over the 1/4" studs. The grill then screws on the brackets using the fasteners that come with the grill. This sets the grill back into the hole about 3/8" of an inch and I like that better than the flush mount you get using the OEM instructions. I want to post a picture but it keeps telling me the file is too large.

Just about the same or so. I have the Carriage Works in black on mine. Trans cooler is near nick free.

I put a cover in as well. I was worried about taking the entire grill off the truck but it is actually pretty easy. And it makes putting the cover in much easier to do. Take the black plastic cover off the top of the rad/ grill, take out four bolts and the whole grill just pops out forward from the compression type holders. I just wouldnt do it in the cold for fear of breaking the plastic.

I put this Stainless Steel Transmission Cooler - Bar Design Bumper Grille Cover manufactured by

"PUTCO" on my '16 Chevrolet Z71 - LTZ Silverado HD - Duramax - Part Number: 86195

I'm hoping the tranny does not run hot with it on. Anyone have any first hand experience running with one? Additionally I installed it not so much for the looks but more for practicallity to prevent stones, rock salt and the like from damaging the fins / coils.

Stay well....

I just mount a scrape piece of steel shelving and 1/4" galvanized screen.

I put on a Putco screen on mine within a week of buying my 2015. I run a lot of gravel roads, and that last thing I needed was to have someone come by me from the opposite direction and happen to get a rock thru there into the oil cooler. Really lame that GM didn't have some form of screen or grill over that lower opening. Not sure where R&D's mindset was on forgetting to protect the cooler.

I put a Cloud Rider (Canadian brand) grille in the bumper opening on my 2011 2500HD (6 L). I towed a 21' travel trailer w/ it. I didn't notice any big swings in the trans' temp. Annual trips to Indy @ Labour Day & MIS in June were the warmest ambient temps the truck saw.

Open the pic w/ Paint, you can resize it to a more manageable size.

$1.50 black coated metal gutter guard. Trim the length a few inches and slid between the plastic bumper trim and bumper. Just to protect from rocks. Quick, cheap, easy. It stays put and hasn't moved for the two months I have had it in there.

Could you take a pic of it taken a few feet away from the truck?
