Music won't show up on screen

I have android Galaxy s6. Non bose. When I hook up the cord in my console hookup to much phone, isn't my music library supposed to pop up on my screen? Or even through bluetooth?

I cannot speak for your phone but when I plug in my iPod everything shows up on the screen and I can control it through my steering wheel controls or through the touch screen.

I think i messed up. Do I need the android app downloaded on my phone for it to work?
