Exhaust tip help

Just looking for some help or info on exhaust tips. Yes, I do know that there are three or four forums about it but they didn't really have what I was looking for. I have a Sierra with the 5.3. I know that the exhaust pipe is 2.75". I just can't seem to find a dual exhaust tip with a slash forward cut that is staggered in a 2.75" inlet. All the other forums about this have them but they are for the 6.2 with the 3" pipe. What are my options out there?! Any help is appreciated. Picture shows one that would be perfect but it only come in 3". Thanks.

That is a cool looking tip. Did you check with Summit racing customer service? Might be an option for the smaller inlet or possibly and adaptor on that tip design? I find it hard to believe that they would not have that part to fit the most common exhaust pipe size of ALL late Model GM trucks (5.2 engine w/2.75" exh pipe) that looks good enough to maybe have your local muffler shop make an adaptor for you if you cannot get it in the 2.75" inlet size.

It wouldn't be hard for an exhaust shop to fab up an adapter to get that to work. Many have done it. I think there's a Corsa clone by the name of redline also.

Thanks for the info. I will send them an emaill today. Also since it is 2.75" will a 2.75" inlet just slide right over to bolt on? or would it need to be welded? I would figure the tips with the slit on the inside (like pictured above) are for bolt on so they have room to tighten a bit...

It'll slide right on. My tip was from Summit and it was a 2.75 ID. Slipped right on and had it welded over the old exhaust pipe.

It just depends on the tip if its a clamp on style or weld on.

For the clamp on style do you have to cut the existing tailpipe or does it just depend? What do you think an exhaust/muffler shop would charge to weld cut and weld one one? Again thanks for the help

Posted

Just depends. I didn't cut anything on mine. Just slipped it over. Shouldn't be more than $20 for them to weld a tip on.

I just had mine custom made for much cheaper. I was looking at those same tips but wanted a different look that was more unique be99b5fd3743cb91d642e4e7ece2397f.jpg2c45e39a60342ffd9f283e32e18b3d07.jpgabbdc3d273d480bb1042f703aec74831.jpg

I just saw in another forum that you have the Maganaflow 18"? Can you tell me how it is and how it is setup? I want a little more growl/rumble but still quiet and absolutely no drone. Id also prefer to leave resonator in as well. Between that and the tips that I want I can't figure out what direction I want to go...

As far as tip set up goes it's kinda just design preference. I deleted the resonator and flapper valve. The 18" muffler is awesome in my honest opinion. It's like a medium volume in the configuration. No drone, quiet normal cruising but great growl at start up and good sound under throttle. If you're looking for something quieter I would suggest a bigger magnaflow. Something in the 24" range

how do you think it would be with the resonator and the flapper in?

Well with the flapper valve in and no resonator you get a whistle sound even if you clamp the flapper open you can hear a woosh sound still. But I'm assuming the resonator would probably allow you to keep the valve in without the whistling sound. So if you decide to take out the resonator which is my recommendation on sound preference you should definitely remove the valve.
