Side by sides

Anyone on here into side by sides? I'm looking to upgrade to one for hunting and trail riding. Been looking into the Kawasaki Teryx and the Teryx4, Can Am Commander XT 800 and the Yamaha Wolverine R Spec. I've know several people that have had issues with the Polaris RZR with constant breakdowns and fixes so not really interested in the Polaris. The new Honda Pioneer 1000 looks interesting, but something about it just doesn't look right to me. Really need something with a usable bed so the full-sport mode units are out of the question. Would like to get something sporty and utilitarian all in the same package no Polaris Rangers or something similar. So if anyone has any input, please feel free to comment. Also if anyone is in the market for a 2006 Polaris Sportsman 500 EFI 4x4 in good shape in the North Alabama area let me know. I'm motivated to sell.

I know you said you're not into the Polaris, but their new General is a mix of sport and utility. Equivalent to the commander basically. I'm a can am guy myself but my parents just got a Polaris Rzr XP and so far, with only about 5 hours on it and me running the piss out of it, it definitely feels like a very solid machine. It was a toss up between the rzr and the maverick. Maverick seats are more comfy IMO but they feel too top heavy for cornering well. That still won't stop me from purchasing a Maverick in the future, I've had great luck with my Outlander that I'd buy Can Am again

I've got an '11 Ranger 500 midsize (bought new) w/ about 3400 miles on it. My only issue was a sliced CV boot (my fault). I use it for work on our woodlot & recreational riding. It's not used as a "toy".

I am in the Polaris camp as well. I have a RZR 570. I work it more so than using it as a toy. Passed on the Ranger since it was too big for some of the tighter areas on my property. I love it. Have about 50hrs on the motor and have not had any issues. At times, I wish the bed was larger. However, when I need more more room, I use a mini trailer. It has no issues pulling and braking with heavy loads. I'd buy again

Old thread, adding my 2 cents. I am in the Polaris RZR camp. Still saving for one. Of my friends they all have RZR's and there are probably about 5 in the group. New and used they are holding well for all of them. Matt, what did you end up getting?

Ended up going with the Yamaha Wolverine R spec with EPS in camo. I was really surprised by this little unit. The ride is crazy smooth. Power is respectable for it only having a 708cc engine. Has full differential lock and climbs like a mountain goat. I've had it up some pretty steep rocky hills and it just sticks and goes. Primarily bought for hunting, trail riding and working around the house and it fits the bill for those 3 needs.

Nice! Me and my dad test drove one of those before the rzr he bought. Nice little machine and if he wasn't only going to be using the machine for trail riding only that would be his pick. Seems like those had some good low end power from what I remember! Camo is always the best color bc it shows the least wear over time!

Something from Polaris more in alignment with the Yamaha Wolverine R would probably be the Polaris General. Don't know if it comes in camo though. =)

I have owned 4 Polaris machines over the years. Right now I have a 2016 RZR 1000 XP. I have had good luck with allof them. PoPo gets a bad rap on break downs purely because they have out sold all other SxS combined 5 to 1. 5 times more machines to break down.They are no worse than any other machine and better than most. Good luck with the Yamaha and congrats on the new toy. Yamaha makes a quality product, you should get years of work and fun out of it.

I got my first last year. it is a 16 polaris ranger 570 midsize. So much fun, and great around the yard.

Bro wondered why I didn't get a 800 when I bought 500. For our woodlot, the 500 is perfect. It can get into spots where we'd have to brush the trails wider.

Bought brand new back in 09 a 700 Rhino sport edition. Plow snow, haul fire wood, wifes motorized lawn cart, push sprint cars at the local dirt track & trail ride the crap out of it riding with other brands with their problems. I've had no trouble in over 3600 miles other than basic maint. It's been a darn good machine.

Yamaha is second to none in quality. Just wish GM would make a SXS wouldn't that be cool?. Can only dream...
