power steering issue

I have a 2001 silverado z71 4x4 with 5.3L. It intermittently will be hard to turn at a stop or very slow speeds until the vehicle gets moving. I heard there was a change in the high pressure valve but also heard there was issues with the gear box but am unsure on where to start and not sure why it is such an intermittent issue. I would appreciate any help.

Start simple. Siphon out psf fluid and fill with new. Do this several time over a month or two until it looks amber again.

 

Also, grease your alamites!
