2016 sierra tailgate camera HELP

Hey guys,

So i might have made a mistake and took a good deal for granted...

My truck didn't come factory with a backup cam, so i thought id save a few bucks and buy an aftermarket tailgate back up cam.

Problem is that this camera has an RCA as an adapter for video, and this is just my guess but ive never seen a factory head unit with an RCA on the back of it...

So was this back up cam meant for use on an external screen? Or is there some way around this?

Thanks for the help.

Oh sorry, I just saw the bottom. On the 2014/15 there is a cluster of wires at the back of the bed on the bottom that the tail lights, camera, and bed lights plug into. It has a blank plug for the camera on all the 2015s but the wiring is there and just has to be programmed and plugged in to my knowledge from other forum posts. This is not the case for the 2014s. I think the plugs have changed a little in the 2016s up. If you have the plug with the blank in it and the pins you may be able to buy the factory camera on ebay and have the dealership program the truck. A guy on another form had the dealership program his 2014 LT.

Attached are a picture of the wire "box/plugs" and then the arrow points to the general location of where to look under the bed. The middle stub is where you plug in the camera but it could be different on the 2016s

I think that "MVI" company has an a/v box that you can buy and it will have audio video plugs. I think it requires installation behind the passenger glove box. I have not performed this mod but I believe the info I gave above is accurate. Have read in other forums.

Thanks for the response guys. After some research i found it would be a waste of time trying to get this camera to work, so i am going to return this one and get an OEM one.

Sierraguy, thanks for that info. That will be very useful when i get my OEM camera. But the camera i got was to be used on an external screen.... which i don't want haha.

And Knotsure, i talked to Anthony at MVI And that A/V box would have sealed the deal, but it just so happens that it doesn't work with the 7" screen :(
