Key FOB

How many times a week do you have your key fob in your pocket and accidently set the horn off. I average 2 or 3 times a week. Think they would design it where it wouldn't be so easy to do. Anyone else do this ?

I havent set mine off yet. but I keep mine on a clip and attach it to my belt loop.

The fun one I did a few times when the truck was new, was arm the aftermarket alarm(separate remote), and then come back later and use the factory keyless to open it, thus setting off the aftermarket alarm. The reverse would happen if I used the keyless and then the aftermarket. Eventually I figured out that cause.

 

I also had the panic go off from being in my pocket a few times. A solution to that one is to place Scotch tape over that particular button on the board inside the remote.

With the 2000 I had - it rarely happened. With the new 2003 - its happened 4 or 5 times in the 2 months I've had it. I think the button is more sensitive, remote more powerful, or something. Just happens more than it used to with the old one.

I used to set mine off. I took the key fob apart and taped the contact. Fixed that problem!

this thread has come up before.. but it happened to fustrate me enough that I took the fob apart and removed the panic button entirely. It wasn't useful to begin with (you can locate your truck by repeatedly pressing lock). I avoid panic at all costs

Another way to fix that is to take apart the fob and use a razor knife to slice off the little metalic piece on the underside of the red button. Reassemble the fob, and no more horn honking. The horn will still chirp when you double click the lock button though, which is OK.

 

IMHO, that panic button feature is only for scared old ladies and single women.

Tape sounds like the best "fix" to me.

 

Can't say I've ever done it, but I prefer looser fitting clothing.

My '99 never did that, but my 2001 and 2003 seem to go off at least 2-3 times a month. I think that feature is on borrowed time.

Very seldom has that ever happened to me with the GM Fob. Now my son setting off the alarm while playing with my keys...that is a different story.

I use it to scare the cat of my truck or if i know the person walking in front, i'll use it then. My memory is still quite sharp so i can locate it in a parking lot quickly must be chevy sense.
