What a pain

So I started to pull the grill so I can get the (black) mesh painted, also the valance part. The separating the chrome part from the (black) part of the grill was a pain, the clips are very very tight !! Is there some special tool are process ? This alone took about 2 hrs. to do once the grill was off and was inside.

Took me 10 mins... just used 2 screwdrivers.

I don't know that it took me two hours, but it was definitely a long part of putting in the light bar behind the grill. i guess I don't know where to put the "two screwdrivers"; definitely a pain and the thing that stressed me out the most about taking the grill out. I was worried I was going to break something...

Op is talking about separating the grille from the mesh so he can paint it. Just removing the grille is a 15 min process. These trucks come apart super easy.

4 bolts for the bumper pad, and it pulls right off. A dozen or so clips and the top cover comes off. 6 bolts and the grille pops right off. Separating the mesh is a little more tedious going back and forth on the tabs to get them all separated.

I used a screw driver and wedged it on one tab to release it. Held pressure with my fingers and moved to the next tab. Repeat on all tabs and the mesh comes right out.

Yea removing the grill is simple, now try removing the plastic from the chrome of the grill.

Just take your time. It's really pretty easy. It was a 10 min job.

I don't have that I grille and I never removed the chrome from one but I heard using a screwdriver to pry the clips and pieces of a toothpick to hold it while you move on was a good technoque.

Would like to see this technique , there is no way that a toothpick will hold those clips. But if anyone has a link to a video or special tool I would like to see it to save me some time !! Not saying it cant be done, we have some creative people.
