Fuel pressure

There are probably several different posts on this but using search on tap a talk blows,

have a 2002 Silverado 2500hd 6.0 Gasser can any one tell me the exact specs for the fuel pressure

 

Engine off key on

And engine running please.

 

Don't remember the specs should of wrote it down never did like an idiot.

 

I wanna say it's supposed to be around 55-62psi at the rail once cut off should not drop more then 5 psi in one minute.

I believe you are spot on, if it's a return system your pressure should drop maybe 10psi, if returnless will go up 5-10psi when the truck is running.

Yeah, 55 PSI is what I remember, for quite a long year model range too. I think ever since '96 with OBD-II, up to the last SFI engine.

 

GDI is totally different - thousands of PSI from what I hear ... but that doesn't apply to you whatsoever.

I believe you are spot on, if it's a return system your pressure should drop maybe 10psi, if returnless will go up 5-10psi when the truck is running.

Now that I think about it I won't lose any pressure in one minute so you may have leaky injectors or a leak in your system somewhere if you're losing that much. Not 100% on that, I called the dealership and they gave me the exact numbers, try that.

Just did pressure test on it 48 psi went up when I cut it off not down went up to 52 running stayed at 48.

Was hoping fuel pressure was gonna be the problem for my p0300 because everything else is good. But today she starts over heating and misfiring. Believe I have warped heads or a bad gasket....... not a happy camper about this.

Gonna throw some head gasket sealer in It won't harm anything so **** it. If it stops doing it as bad tells me that that's what's going on means I have an excuse to pick up a different 6.0 and build it up.

I hate to say it, but I believe you are correct. Envious that you have time to do a rebuild so I say go for it!

Fuel pressure dropping when running suggests a leaky injector. I'd investigate that first.

 

I haven't dealt with this problem yet but have read plenty about it. These engines are super picky with fuel pressure. Just a slight drop below spec will cause the other injectors to not fire properly.

 

If the other injectors are barely getting any fuel out due to the low pressure, that would definitely cause a lean misfire and overheating.

 

Do some testing before you dive into a head gasket job.

I swapped out different injectors already. Same problem. What I'm gonna do is go get a different 6.0 and strip it completely get the block machined and heads redone and put new pistons and crank and camshaft new sensors for everything new intake new coils new injectors the whole nine.

I'm gonna dump some shit in her first. It should help some if it is a head did on my buddies 3.4. If it takes that and operates better than it's for sure a head. The 48 psi should not cause it to do what it is doing.

Throwing new injectors and a pump in it was a thought tho if the stuff I put in it doesn't help at all. I placed used injectors in it.

That wouldn't explain it over heating to 260 the last two days it does come back to operating time.
