Anyone else hate the chrome on the '16 gmc led tails? Me too.. mod

No chrome on my LTZ leds, but to much red. I've been thinking of tinting

them .

The Chevy Leds are really nice, I like those alot.

 

It's real easy to tint them. Just grab a can of translucent black from autozone, wet sand w/ 800g, wipe down, spray 2-5 coats (depending on how dark you want to go), then top w/ 3-4 coats of clear. Then polish and your done.

See I like those lights, don't suppose those would fit a GMC, I like those over the chrome ones that the newer GMC's use.

Still Trying to find a proper sealent/glue to hold everything together.

 

Plastic weld looks good but has no type of applicator. Just mix on a piece of cardboard like JB. I need something that can be directed/injected into the channel like caulk...

 

Any suggestions?

Plastic weld looks good but has no type of applicator. Just mix on a piece of cardboard like JB. I need something that can be directed/injected into the channel like caulk...

Any suggestions?

I know about that butyl rubber that they use for headlights, but I don't think this would be the right application for it.

I'd use permaseal caulk. Go to your local pool supply store and see what they have. It remains slightly flexible and seals permanently.

I'll try to get some night pics.

They are very visible still at night, even with just the running lights on. And of course bright when the brake is applied.

 

It's 20% lens film tint; it's just enough to take out most of the red, but still leaves it very visible. I guess you could go darker,say 15% or even 5% , but the 20% is perfect for what I wanted. And I like the film tint idea because it's reversible and keeps the taillights protected; they should stay like new under there protected from the elements and UV protection.

 

My next step is to get rid of the red 4X4 decals; I have some really sweet grey and black 4X4 decal replacements to put on, I'm just waiting for some warmer weather.

 

I'm just going for the whole white and black theme. Well, it's Pearl Tricoat, but you get the idea. I want white, black, and chrome only. Just me, that's what makes me happy. LOL
