NO A/C!

Well, I leave from work today ... and here in Jersey it's really hot now. So I get on the Garden State Parkway and hit the switch for some nice, ice-cold A/C. 5 minutes goes by and it's blowing hot air. So for 22 miles I keep trying the A/C ... hoping it will work. Nothing happens.

Call the dealer (is it bad I have the number memorized?). I then get told "Yeah, apparently there's a problem with the A/C switch"

So now I have to leave work early tomorrow so they can look at it to see if it is indeed the switch.

So, FYI to those of you with 2003 Sierras/Silverados ... you may not have working A/C much longer. I'll find out more tomorrow and post back.

I bought my 2003 2500 HD last September. It was hot then to. The second day I had it the A/C failed. Took it to the dealer andthey fixed it promptly. It was a hose connection and damaged O-Ring. The A/C has been fine ever since then.

Been running the A/C 2-3 days when this happened. Checked the hoses the minute I got home ... no apparent leaks/cracks/breaks etc

I have the dual-zone auto control A/C. Worked great when it was working. Nearly froze myself.

It goes to the dealer around 3 pm today ... I'm hopeful this will be quick and easy.

This is a known problem on GMC/Chevy V8 engines. The switch that cycles the compressor on and off is only good for 5-10k miles. I learned the hard way myself. They still have not come out with a fix, but the dealer will replace it with another switch, good for 5-10k miles.....

I have just the oppisite problem. I have the auto climate control and can't figure out how to shut the air off and just use the vent. I like to have the windows down and ice cold air blowing out the vents. I've got it to work a couple time but have no clue as to how I got there. As much as I hate to do it, I may just have to read the manual!

I thought mine was good when I first got the truck, but now that we've had a hot spell it doesn't do nearly the job as my '02 did. I have the auto as well, but I've tried putting it into manual and cranking the A/C on high. Cool, but not cold. Then other days it'll blow so cold it'll freeze you out. It's cool more often than cold though.

The A/C went out on my '99 suddenly while driving last summer, and it turned out to be the serpantine belt that runs the A/C (seperate belt) had broken.

Just an idea.

In the last 2 weeks GM just released a new updated low pressure switch to replace the ones on certain full size trucks and Trailblazers to fix the problem.

The same thing happened on my '94 (new model change that year) S-10 when new. It spent more time at the dealer than with me for the first 2 months.

Try turning the temp down to 60 degrees for driver and passenger, and hit the auto button. This is the only way to get "Max A/C" with these systems. If the air is still not cold, then it's a problem with the temp blending door inside the housing sticking open, allowing heated air to mix with the A/C air.

Remember that if you set the temperature at say 70 degrees, blended air that is close to that temperature is going to come out of the vents -- not 100% cold air -- to try to maintain the set temp in the cab. The CCs have a pretty big volume of air to keep cool, so the controller is just not calibrated correctly. Also make sure the little fan above your head is actually working, this is where the temp sensor is. Also connected to the controller is the heat load sensor on the dash, integrated into the headlight sensor. Make sure that it isn't covered, or it won't send the controller the right info.

I initally had some problems with my auto air in my 2003 duramax ext cab, and the dealer changed the program and the pressure switch. I have no problem keeping the cab as cold as I want even on the hottest days, although I do the Max A/C setting until the cab cools down, and then set it at about 68-70 degrees.
