If I have install shortys without a tune right away will the truck be bogged down? I already know it'll throw a code from the EGR valve, but will I feel a difference in drive quality?

You're not going to feel much of a difference with shortys either way, you're better off with long tubes. but to answer your question, you may see some codes( I do on mine) and i'm sure you will notice a slight difference but i doubt it will be much.

How big of a difference in torque and hp is it between the two. Do you know?

I'm probably not the guy to answer that but every vehicle is different with everything around it being different, engines, exhausts, etc.

I just got shortys installed on my 05 5.3 and it didn't throw any egr codes. I feel a good amount of power but not an overly crazy amount. I also think it sounds great!
