Tranny fluid drain plug on pan??

Recommended Posts

Posted

Just got done with my first oil and diff. fluid change. While I was under the truck, I noticed there was what looked like a drain plug for draining the tranny fluid so you don't have to drop the whole pan to drain it. On my other vehicles, (97 GMC Safari, 02 Sierra) there is no such plug.

Is this in fact what this plug is for? I would assume that I would still have to drop the pan to change the tranny fluid filter.

Thanks.

it is a drain plug for the tranny. I think it is there to make the pan easier to manage while taking it off (without being full of hot tranny fluid).

The 2 that I have removed were in there pretty good. (1000 ft/lbs). I actually broke a tool trying to get it out. :)

I assume you were exagerating here? 1000 ft/lbs?!!! I doubt it.
