Super High Oil Pressure

Recommended Posts

92 tbi 350. When I start it cold the oils pressure is so high the guage can't read it. Once I drive the truck for a while and it's warmed up the oil pressure comes down to normal when idling. When I accelerate past say 2800 rpm my oil pressure begins to rise fast and eventually the gauge can't read it again until I let off the pedal. Help?

if there is an oil cooler..

there is two reliefs related. (I actually use one in my custom subaru - made for the gm trucks, like 5 bucks a piece)

there is also a ball relief external at the oil filter housing.

the worst case scenario is the oil pump relief itself. That would be a deeper operation to fix.

if you feel like experimenting, get a new cheap oil filter, and find a way to poke a whole in the filter part.

this will verify the outside relief problems...compared to internal.

there is so much reliefs bouncing around, I had a miracle with the billet filters and stainless mesh. A stable line of flow to let all the other stuff play nice.

Another thing these trucks do is make a dirty oil cooler through time. the gooper that decides to move is what takes the reliefs eventually.

All oil filter related as initial cause, more than heat and other subjects.

I'd try another gauge. Is the one you have electrical or mechanical? If electrical, put a mechanical in it's place and go from there.
