NV4500 clutch fluid vs 6spd

I was going through the manual for the 2003s and in the back where the fluid specs are, it had a different part number (and section/box) for 5spd clutch reservoirs and 6spd clutch reservoirs.

Why could this be? Havent pretty much ALL clutch cylinders specced out for DOT3?

There is a difference. the 5 speed NV units spec GM p/n 12345347 hydraulic fluid, which is now discontinued. The manual says for the 5 speed "or or equivalent DOT-3 brake fluid". Being the spec'd is NLA, DOT-3 will work.

The 6 speed units (ZF-6) used 88958860, which is now 19299570 hydraulic fluid. The big difference is the NV units spec DOT-3, but the ZF units spec DOT-4. DOT-4 has higher dry and wet boiling points. Being the ZF-6 was behind the 8.1 and the Duramax, which output more power than the smaller engines, and are subject to higher loads.

Thanks man! Don't thnk I ever heard of DOT-4 in a clutch reservoir.

I bought some clutch fluid from AutoZone awhile back just for fun, but all I've heard, seen, and written my whole life has been DOT-3 brake fluid- until I noticed in the back of my 03 owner's manual after looking thru it for like the dozenth time.
