What year and what model vehicle? The wax coating peeling/flaking off in sheets is exhibited on some of the full size trucks. Primarily '14 and '15 K2xx. Something in the chemistry of the wax, or a process changed and was causing adhesion issues.

A wax very similar to factory wax coating is made by Daubert chemical co. Nox -rust 121b available in spray cans .

That is correct, the factory coating is supplied by Nox-rust 121b.

I had my truck (2015 1500 5.3 Crew, LT) stripped and recoated by dealer. There's a TSB on this.
Any areas that I notice that still look to have surface rust, I wire brush and spray with Rustoleum Undercoat.
problem solved.
