Converting 1/2 ton to 3/4 ton

You have multi link. 3/4 ton does. Adding leaf springs is not feasible. You can make it more stable with loads with air bags. You can't legally tow more than what GM says on the vehicle. Look at a 4.10 gear or 4.56. But gas mileage goes down

 

I wanna tow more than what GM says illegally ? No joke. So what else can I do to increase my tow capacity?

 

I also wanna see if it's possible to add heavy duty brakes to my 5.3?

 

And can I change the multi link for leaf spring?

No HD brakes. Can go to the 05-06 1500 front brakes if you are running a 17" wheel or bigger. I did that swap

Well I'm still trying to figure out how much max my car can tow.

 

2004 Yukon XL 1500 4wd, 3.73 gears.... last time I checked it was 7,200 but when I do a google search 8,000 comes up and it leaves me really confused ?

FML... I swear this is the first and last time I'll ever get a 1/2 ton. The truth is I don't need a 3/4 ton truck, but I have this mentality that I'd rather have one than not just in case.

 

Because even though let's say I'll never use the 3/4 ton to its true capacity, it's the matter that I have the option to take it to the next level that matters.

 

I'll never know when I need a heavy duty truck, someday I'll be married with a wife and multiple kids and if I'm home and everybody in the trailer in my 1500 and God for bid if it's overloaded and I'm going down a sharp steep slope and God for bid I don't want to put anybody especially my wife and kids in danger.

 

That's why I'm trying to figure out what else I can do and it's even harder when you're on a budget.

 

I wish they made an equal amount of 3/4 tons. Maybe if I find a donor truck like a three-quarter ton Chevy suburban I'll just put the body of my Yukon on top of it because I like the Yukon look better.

Worry about increasing capacity when the time calls for it. Don't try to go with something when yo I don't need it. A 3/4 ton will cost you more in the long run if you aren't using it. At least in California an SUV is registered as a car.
