Haha!  First ATV trip of the year tomorrow!!

Yes...the weather tomorrow is going to be 70 and partly sunny!!  So my wife and I are heading down to Hatfield-McCoy Trails in southern WV tomorrow to ride atvs.  Finally nice to get out and have some fun after the crappy weather after having cabin fever for the past month!!  Got the ATVs loaded on the truck and trailer and just sent my wife to the grocery store to buy food and beverages!!  Hopefully I'll take some digital photos and post them in a few days.

 

What's everybody else have planned this weekend?  The weather looks like it's going to be good for much of the country!!  Have a good weekend guys and say a prayer for our soldiers who are doing their job overseas and at home so we can safely enjoy a weekend off... ;)  :exclaim:

That is a GREAT place to go riding.  We went down there last year for a few days.  Had a blast!  We're actually planning another trip this year...either the last week in June or the weekend before (during that ride fest they have).  Have fun down there!!!

 

My weekend consists of spending time with my G/F in downtown Pittsburgh...going out to dinner tonight, then getting up early tomorrow for the St Patricks Day parade/drink fest that we have downtown.  Very good time!   :D   Anyone from the Pittsburgh area going to this?

 

 

Oh and if the rain holds off, the truck will get its first coat of wax this year.... :0  Going to see if I can get my G/F to help me wax...<crossing fingers>

Vegas was the first time I got to cruise around in an ATV and it was a blast.  I would love to do it again, just wish I had the $$$ to buy one.

But, this weekend I am going to prep the truck a bit for the body lift and sunday Joe (Firecadet613) is stopping by and we're taking off his trailer hitch and spraying it up w/ spray on bed liner.

Company (municipal Govt.) just bought me a new Yamaha Grizzly 660. Great machine, we use it for spraying weeds, seeding grass and I made two small explosives magazines to transport explosives for blasting beaver dams. Lots of fun but someone has to do it. :D

PS As for this weekend, we have big car show on, and of course it's St. Patricks day weekend so I will have to force myself to drink some green beer!!!! :D

Hey, they should be dieing the Chicago river green soon.  At least a brighter shade fo green than it already is.  :D

Lane, if they don't let me know, I have access to that dye that they use.  It's very potent stuff, a teaspoon will turn a whole pool green w/ plenty left over... Not that I'd do such a thing, but I could :D

Well as Jon said I'm going up by him this weekend to take care of my trailer hitch.  It's starting to look that rust brown color in some spots (paint is flaking off), so I'm giong to hit it with some Rustoleum and then spray on bedliner.

This wk i was around 35 hrs next wk i have like 30 and the week after i have 34.  Not to bad working mostly fri-sunday

Z:  We went to Bear Wallow-that's my favorite one too.  We went ahead and bought the year pass and rode all day then came home late tonight.  Ended up riding about 40 miles total, and there were only about a dozen trucks/trailers at the trailhead so we basically had the place to ourself!!   My wife took some photos of me stuck in that big mudhole on trail 10 so check back in the "Photos" section and I'll post some of the pictures. :D

 

Probably I will be going back down in April with my brother in law and a few other guys to stay a few days at one of the campsites.  Great place to ride.

      Monthly payment is only part of the equation. With today's prices and interest rates, I'd look at the total monthly cost: payment, insurance, registration, fuel, maintenance, and expected repairs. A vehicle that fits comfortably into your budget is usually the better choice than stretching for a higher trim. I've also kept my vehicles longer over the past few years. New cars have gotten expensive enough that driving one for 10+ years, while staying on top of maintenance, often ends up being the most cost-effective approach.

      Thanks newdude!  By the time manual selection is needed, I'm probably too much of a control-freak to depend on the transmission sensing braking to activate automatic downshifting.  I would be anticipating the situation and already be manually downshifting.   This truck replaced a 2004.5 LLY diesel with the Allison 5-speed.  Putting it in T/H made noticeable differences (when the torque converter locked, upshift points, downshift behavior).  On this 2024 gasser with the 10L1000 I haven't been able to detect much, if any, difference.  Ok, I can never tell now when the torque converter locks up.  But I also don't notice differences in shifting.  For downhills, I've probably already manually downshifted by then anyway.  Since it's also more awkward (than the 2004.5) to engage/disengage I don't even bother.  Or maybe it doesn't really matter with just a 3k lb. camper in the bed?   Thanks also for the list of reasons the charging system might select various voltages.  However, what I am seeing doesn't fall into any of those categories.  It very definitely, and very consistently, rises after coasting/braking.  Maybe not immediately, but not very long after coasting/braking.  Very consistently drops voltage when no longer coasting/braking.  It might also be interacting with the camper battery charging (I might disconnect the camper and see if it changes the charging behavior).  I also need to recheck turning on headlights for when I want to force it to charge the camper.   Another JR, in June I converted the camper to LiFePO4.  Since it's not a good idea to try to charge lithiums directly using truck, I installed a Victron Orion XS DC-DC charger (which BTW is AMAZING!!).  Being cheap, I only had to buy that one item (besides the battery, of course) to do the conversion.  The camper OEM 120v battery charger (only 19 years old and works perfectly) and the truck feed the input to the DC-DC charger (not at the same time).  But I didn't want the camper charger feeding back to the truck so I kept the old separator.  I considered replacing the separator with a 30amp diode but that means more work and might add another 1/2 volt drop.  One thing that surprised me was the voltage drop over the long 10awg wire run, so I can only charge smoothly at 8 amps (because the DC-DC charger is completely configurable).  Another reason I don't want an added voltage drop with the diode.  I might also be a little lazy but all this work is being done under the sink with a small cabinet opening.

      apparently CA smog is (or at least was)  checking that the vehicle is using the oem and/or a ca smog approved tune, so I expect you'll fail inspection doing it.

      yes, leaking exhaust will mess up o2 sensor readings, which in turn messes up fuel trims.
