3.08 or 3.42 rear end?

I had 3.08s in my 2011 gm-it was a dog. Had to run P-rated tires to keep it from being a tank. 3.42s are much better! With 285 BFGs it still pulls in v4...granted I live in the flats 1a18d888c3b9d2ea9e3aab02ceda416a.jpg

The truck only has to be EPA certified for each engine size. The manufacturer isn't required to provide numbers for every body style, axle ratio and bed size.

Now that makes sense. Thank you

I get 21.5-22.0 mpg according to the DIC (although I do drive a lot of highway, at 75-80 mph) with a 5.3 3.42

This and you lose 20% towing capability. Since there is no upcharge for the 3.42, it makes little to no sense to opt for the 3.08 unless you get a smoking deal.

A smoking deal is how I ended up with 3.08 gears. The towing capacity is well within my needs so while it was a compromise, I took the money and ran.

If I had been buying new, I would have chosen the 3.42 gears as the price differential (as you pointed out) was nothing.

Slightly off topic, but does the 5.3 max tow still come with 3.73?

It depends -

This is for 2017, but 16's are likely worded the same.

"NHT Max Trailering Package, includes 9.76" rear axle, 8-speed transmission with 3.42 or 6-speed transmission with 3.73, (JL1) trailer brake controller, enhanced cooling radiator, revised shock tuning for increased control, heavier duty rear springs and increased RGAWR
On SLE - Requires a Crew Cab or Double Cab model. Includes (G80) heavy-duty automatic locking rear differential on 2WD models (already standard on 4WD models) and Z82 Trailering Package. Requires (L83) 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 engine and (DPN) power camper mirrors. Not available with (GAT) All Terrain Package and (Z71) Off-Road Suspension Package. Includes (UHN) 18" X 8.5" bright-machined aluminum wheels. Requires (RBX/RBW) 18" tires or may upgrade to (RD3) 20" ultra bright machined aluminum wheels with either (RC7) or (QSS) 20" tires.
On SLT - Requires (RBX/RBW) 18" tires or may upgrade to (RD5) 20" chrome wheels with either (RC7) or (QSS) 20" tires. With (L86) 6.2L engine, requires 20" wheels with (QSS) 20" tires. Requires (DQS) power adjustable, power folding camper mirrors. Not available with (GAT) All Terrain Package and (Z71) Off-Road Suspension Package."
and
"GT4 Rear axle, 3.73 ratio
On SLE - Requires a Crew Cab or Double Cab model. Included and only available with (NHT) Max Trailering Package with (L83) 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 engine.
On SLT - Requires a Double Cab model. Included and only available with (NHT) Max Trailering Package with (L83) 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 engine."

If it is an SLT Crew, it will be 8 speed, and with with 5.3 and NHT it will have 3.42. (same as my 2016)
