How to wire step bar led light to dome light and switch?

Ok, so i got my step bar led light wired to my dome light so that when i unlock car or turn on dome light, the step bar turns on. Could I add a switch to "just" the step bar light so that let's say if i want it only on and not the dome light, i can turn it on or off? If so, how would i do that?

Wire it to your door locks instead, or puddle lights if you have them. Easiest/cheapest solution.

I would go to the puddle light. The puddle light only lights up when it's dark outside plus tapping that should allow the lights to fade in/out just like the OEM puddle light does.

Good luck using the puddle lights. I could never find the wire for them except at the mirror itself.

Doesn't tapping to dome light already does the fading in/out?
